Hammonds Park Guest House

Room was clean and functional if a little old fashioned. Bathroom had recently been updated. We stayed B&B and the breakfast was great with excellent service from the young waitress. Free parking is also a bonus. We thought it was excellent value for money.

Spent 3 nights here. Comfortable room and very spacious. Friendly staff. As others have mentioned previously poor water pressure meant the shower was a small trickle of water. Tried running a bath but it took too long. Lovely view. The town centre is walkable from this guesthouse however I think the claim that it is only 10 minutes from the town centre is a little bit over optimistic. It’s 10 minutes to the North Beach but probably about 20 right into The town centre. It’s uphill on the way back which was fine for us but anyone with mobility issues would struggle with that hill and some guests were having to take taxis to and from the town. Breakfast was okay but there is a set time which means all the guests come down together and there was quite a long wait for a cooked breakfast. We waited half an hour then felt bad as the couple on the table next to us were still waiting and looking at our breakfast longingly. There was ham and cheese out but none of it was covered and since the weather was hot there were flies buzzing. The dining room is half conservatory and whilst 99% of the year this would be lovely it was uncomfortable as we were having a heatwave at the time. Generally though these are small niggles and overall had a great stay.

A dated, but clean, old style B&B. It is VERY basic so you will get what you pay for. We didn't even have soap in the bathroom to wash our hands with let alone any other toiletries. We had to use the shower gel we'd brought with us to wash our hands. The breakfast is ok, but, I found it a bit oily (I don't eat meat, so mushrooms etc all cooked with fried egg). . I can't fault the service given though. I asked for them to put a bottle of wine in our room, (which isn't part of their standard service), but they did it for me and left us wine glasses - just no cork screw to open the bottle!!! The bed was very comfortable, but I don't think we'd return.
