Great comfy beds such friendly staff if you have walking difficulties it’s fine staying here they have a lift ,disabled parking at the back of the hotel, they make you so welcomed we recommend the Devon breakfast and you shouldn’t go home with out trying the Cream Tea … a proper classic hotel you won’t be disappointed in a wonderful English heritage town like Tavistock this hotel has so much character it’s just what you want when visiting a beautiful part of England

Very friendly and welcoming staff. You can feel the history of the building. It has a lovely atmosphere. I love the lounge with the Chesterfields and fireplace and being surrounded by history. Ideally situated for exploring the area. Will definitely stay again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Had a not so good visit here a few years back ( Disco til midnight under our room ) Since then never went back , however options in Tavistock were limited on this occasion, so we gave the Bedford another chance and I'm glad we did . So let's start with the girls on check in, very pleasant and professional and explained everything to us . Our room , we had upgraded to a larger room with a four poster bed (£219) The room was nice with lovely period features, old furniture befitting a hotel of this age . Bathroom clean , modern(ish), shower gel and shampoo products provided. Lovely breakfast in the morning with a small buffet consisting of pastries, cereals, juices and fruit ect . The hot food is ordered from a menu and is of a good standard if a little on the small side portion wise . Overall we enjoyed our stay as we do come to Tavistock often, so will now make the Bedford our go to hotel of choice.

The building is beautiful, parking just behind and easily accessible with disabled spaces just by the entrance. There is a hold button lift to the reception. We were met by the assistant manager who was charming and shown to a beautifully appointed ground floor bedroom with a fantastic bathroom. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud not too soft or hard and the linen was soft and silky. We were luck enough to have our evening meal in the hotel which I must say rivaled any star rated restaurant in London. The food was outstanding and worth visiting for the local lamb rump from the moors just melted in the mouth and the taste was beyond anything I had had before superb . Breakfast was included and again far superior to most other hotels and using local produce. My only regret is that we could not stay longer. A real gem

Went for Sunday lunch. Set lunch had limited choice - nut roast or lamb, and was dated for the previous week. Price was for one course, which was a disappointment, as previous visits had options for two or three courses at prices only marginally more than todays. One slice of lamb, half a carrot, half a parsnip, one stalk of broccoli, 3 roast potatoes and gravy, plus a Yorkshire pudding (with lamb?), for £20.00 each. Meal was passable, but there are better Sunday roasts elsewhere, with larger portions, more choice and cheaper! Will not return.

We had a lunch for 3 people. Table was dirty and sticky with drops of candle grease on it. Candle grease remained after cleaning. Sweet Potatychips were over salted and inedible, replaced but still too salty. Beef burger was over salted (I actually like salt, but not that much) Mashed Potato and Brisket were also over salted. My wife’s short ribs were slightly burnt After complaining we were given free beverages but the lunchtime was already spoiled by then. Sorry but Won’t be back

We stay several times a year here and have made it our new favourite hotel in Devon. Always friendly and helpful staff. Food is really good, plenty of choice, I don't know how Chef does it! Obviously got a good team around. We usually stay on the Devon Break if staying for two nights as this is very good value. Often struggle to take advantage of the 3 courses included! There is a car park which can be tricky when busy and when people don't park correctly. Also this is used by visitors to the town unnecessarily when there is a large car park behind. No complaints otherwise. Love Tavistock and The Bedford is central to that and our reason for returning time and again.

The lift only goes from the car park to the reception level so is not very accessible. As many guests are 'of a certain age' (like us) we saw many people struggling with the stairs. There is room to put a lift in but why hasn't it been done especially as there are only a few ground floor bedrooms? Bedroom 15 was an adequate size and comfortable enough but the bathroom is VERY small and old, needs updating. Part of the shower cubicle fell off as my husband showered but the part was quickly shoved back into place by maintainable staff after we reported it. Evening meals and breakfasts are very good value when part of a package. Food is local, good quality, well cooked, nicely presented and tasted lovely. We don't undrestand the serving of some parts of the dish (eg sorbet) on separate plates - the first thing you do is tip it onto your plate or bowl! Seems pointless and doesn't add to the plate's visual appeal. In fact it means the server has to return to the kitchen for it so delays the service of the course. Service was good apart from they were slow to remove the dirty plates on our first night though I don't like being called "guys" (how are you guys tonight? Was everything OK for you guys?) - I get that it's probably meant well but we found it annoying. Our red wine was a reasonable price but served in tiny wine glasses more suitable for white wine. It would have been nice to be informed in advance of the disco/party going on below our room till late evening. I had to use earplugs in order to get to sleep. Overall we had a nice stay in Tavistock and at The Bedford and would stay there again.

Lovely hotel, centrally situated with friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and comfortable and provided everything we needed. Good choice at breakfast and the evening function we attended was delightful. We would happily return.
