We had afternoon tea. Everything was excellent. The food and drink was amazing and we were served by a lovely lady called Sarah. She was very efficient, informative and friendly. Lovely setting and a very pleasant experience. We would definitely go back.

I have just returned from 2 nights with my husband. This was supposed to be a special few days down memory lane. Unfortunately it was all very disappointing. The hotel for me has lost its allure and believe the focus now is on weddings rather than nice paying guests who want value for money in good surroundings with tasty food. We got none of these. I did feel that the staff are not able to provide the type of service that we have experienced on frequent visits here, the last one being before the new owner took over. On check out at 9.45 this morning the lady did not ask how the stay had been, when we would be back, or even what we thought of our stay and how was the food. This is very poor customer service. The main road from the hotel going west (A 390) giving the only access into Cornwall was closed during our stay meaning massive diversions were required adding at least 30 minutes to journey times, this was not mentioned prior to arrival, at check in or check out. Some advice would have been easy and very helpful but not forthcoming. We were advised that as part of our package we could have a cream tea or picnic lunch. We agreed on arrival that we would collect the picnic on check out in order to enjoy on the beach today. Guess what, nothing was offered on check out and there for collection. All in all very disappointing in a hotel that used to be fabulous. The new owner I believe has a lot to change.

This used to be a fabulous place to visit for a romantic or family break. Seemingly the new manager in our view has totally ruined it. The place is now soulless. The pre dinner room used to be a snug with a roaring fire and romantic lights. It is now bright lights with really terrible art on the walls that just make you want to leave. There is now no welcome into the restaurant and one has to wait at a huge lit bar which nobody visits. The old H of P had lovely dim lighting for dinner, linen table cloths and candles. Jeremy has changed it into a kinda bistro place with incredible bright ceiling lights that are really unpleasant. Today we had the 5 course tasting menu. Course 1 was stone cold and course 2 had a huge long hair in it. No decent apology. Course three and four were just salt fests and almost inedible. There was I believe a deputy manager on site called Douglas. He walked past our table 7 or 8 times and never once said hello , good evening and once he knew we were troubled with the food gave us a massive curve. It was probably the worst experience of device and food we have had for 10 years. We did notice he advised his waitress ( very sweet) to advise us the wine would be free. Amazing he had no balks to come and chat with us and talk about our experience. The rooms ( we were in 15) are ok but beware no dressing gowns or towels unless you order in advance???? Really.??? The hotel on the outside is tired and needs a serious paint job. There are windows with really dirty net curtains and the garden needs some serious work on it with lawns not mown for at least three weeks. There is a message in the rooms about how concerned they are about wastage and environment goodness but we notice two of the gents urinals were broken and permanently running water down the drain. What a waste. Never ever again. A very sad fall of grace. The staff seemed unmotivated, fed up and the ambience is v v poor.

Took my grandparents for a delicious 3 course lunch last week and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent and exceeded all expectations. The honey mousse was beautifully presented and tasted even better. The service was great and the atmosphere was lovely. We will definitely be back!

Good, but not great. We stayed for dinner, bed and breakfast, and despite much that was above average - well-equipped room with lovely view from south-facing balcony, fabulous dinner, exemplary service in restaurant - the overall experience was diminished by a few oversights/errors/omissions, particularly affecting the ‘guest experience’ within the hotel. For example: at check-in (for which we were 20 mins early) we were sent to the lounge and then forgotten; we weren’t asked at what time we’d like dinner, but told when we finally did check in; our jug of milk in the fridge had a fly in it; and we returned after a day out to find some of our toiletries, including a toothbrush, on the bathroom floor (apparently removed from a shelf when cleaning). All of these issues could have been avoided at no extra cost with more care and consideration for the guest.

We went with a party of eleven family members including children and a baby, for the weekend Golden Wedding celebration. Everything was perfect. The accommodation was beautiful as usual . The food was amazing and the service faultless. The staff are helpful and efficient. We are fairly regular visitors but this larger party was well managed and surpassed our expectations. It was perfect.

My husband and I went for afternoon tea to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We could not have been treated better. The glass of prosecco in the peaceful lounge was a lovely start followed by interesting and delicious sandwiches/savouries, freshly made scones with clotted cream and homemade cakes/pastries. Everything was perfect together with the wonderful views across the Tamar Valley.
