We pre-booked the lunch menu as we were in the area for other reasons and this was one of the only places open this time of year. It's really easy to find and the drive up is really beautiful however parking seemed limited. When we arrived we were lead to the drawing room to wait for our table to be ready (we arrived a bit early so this was a nice touch rather than us standing around). The only strange thing was that we were given the menus and our order was taken in the drawing room. Strange but not a big deal. We were then led to our table by the very helpful host. Both hosts on that day were excellent and struck the right balance between checking on us and leaving us alone to eat. As part of the lunch menu you are given some warm bread and water at the start of the meal. The bread was good and was well received as we had been traveling in the morning and hadn't eaten since early in the morning. For starters we both had the Haddock fish cakes. They were really good and the perfect size for a starter. For main I had the chicken breast which was perfectly cooked. It was served with mash, broccoli, caramelised onion puree and a roasted onion. This course was solid cooking and I would 100% have it again. The desert was my favourite part of the meal. We both had the chocolate cremeux with the star of the show being the hazelnuts it was served with. It has a salty hit which was really needed with the rich dessert. It was excellent. The reason it is not 5 stars is purely a few bits we had an issue with. Being January it was pretty quiet and I don't think the staff in the kitchen realised how loud they were being. We could hear some of them swearing which we wouldn't normally care about but when the you are trying to have a nice lunch and the fact it was quiet it was pretty hard to ignore. That said, everyone swears sometimes so not that big of a deal and we would return!

Absolutely brilliant New Year break. We've stayed here many times and knew that we wouldn't be disappointed. The staff, food and overall experience exceeded even our high expectations. This time we were in room 5 which was great although the lighting is a little dim. Even so the whole stay was fantastic. All of the staff were friendly, happy and attentive without being intrusive. If Jeremy wanted a new venture he could have his team give masterclasses in hospitality. This applies to all of the team but especially Sarah (the smiling go-go dancer) Everest (the waiter and DJ) and Amelia (the waitress whose smile would brighten the dullest day). Also Donna on reception who doubles up as the lounge fire lighter. A big thank you to all the staff whose names escape us and we look forward to our next visit.

What can I say? I stayed at the hotel over the festive period to get away from the usual Christmas chaos and I was not to be disappointed. The food certainly exceeded my expectations the chefs came into the dining room after the meal to the applauds of my fellow guests. I expected great but received fantastic. Everyone was extremely helpful, the wine recommendations were perfect - thank you Sarah - and cheers to Jeremy the owner of the hotel for joining me to toast the new year. If you are of discerning nature this is the hotel for you. Nothing was too much. Thank you HoP and I wish you a good 2025.

We stayed at The Horn of Plenty for New Year’s Eve. We were delighted with the warm welcome from the receptionist who showed us to our room and even carried our luggage. The food was magnificent, the brioche bread with balsamic vinegar butter was delicious and the venison so tender and tasteful, in fact all of the six courses were faultless. The restaurant staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble and so polite. Our room was huge, tastefully decorated with far reaching views across the Tamar Valley. All in all it truly was lovely. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so memorable. We will be back.

My wife and I returned to The Horn of Plenty over the New Year period having stayed there many times in previous years including New Year. We always loved this place for its intimacy, friendliness and excellent food. We both felt the standard of food had deteriorated a smidgin for a few years leading up to lockdown causing us to seek solace elsewhere but, hey, everybody deserves another chance, so, once again back to our origins. I’m delighted to say we were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the rooms were as excellent and as comfortable as ever. Everything you would want for an overnight or short break stay, clean, cosy with an element to detail. What enhanced our stay even more was the return to good food, quality, variety and well presented! The new owner welcomed us on our arrival and took time to take an interest in our wishes and what we were anticipating.

After having been to The Horn of Plenty several times before, we were looking forward to a lovely Christmas lunch. Unfortunately, this was not the case, without going into too much detail, the food was disappointing, to say the least. The staff on the other hand, were attentive and friendly as always.
