After nearly two years of anticipation to visit Castle Hotel & Spa and enjoy its magical atmosphere, I finally booked a Halloween stay in March, hoping to experience the season in this iconic setting close to Sleepy Hollow. Living nearby, I’d always seen it as a perfect getaway and decide to save it for this magical, fall weekend. Two days before my arrival, upon reading recent reviews, I discovered that key amenities—including the spa and restaurant, and all more atmosphere settings details like fire pit and outdoor lights at night—are closed and non-operational. For a property that brands itself as a spa, it was especially surprising that the actual spa has been closed for most of 2024 with no clear reopening date nor with this information written anywhere, including the long message with information they send prior your arrival. The restaurant has also been closed. Much of what makes this place so special is unavailable. The only thing properly mentioned is the opening/closing dates of the outdoor pool. Given that the rates are substantially high compared, since they are meant to include all amenities, I asked if an adjustment or accommodation would be made. No, the rate would stay the same. After 8 months of anticipation, 2 days before my trip, I decided to sadly cancel, explaining that these closures should be disclosed upfront, as most guests likely expect the full experience and would only learn otherwise upon arrival. Their response was simply "ok"—no apology or recognition of my concern, which was another letdown. It’s unfortunate that a place with so much potential isn’t more transparent with its guests.

The Castle Hotel & Spa was phenomenal. Service was great, food was good, and the estate was beautiful to walk around during the colorful fall season. Views were amazing peering out over the Hudson River and small towns, with glimpses of NYC. My girlfriend and I would definitely stay again for a night!

Hotel is beautiful however parking spots suck, no one is helpful. No food, alcohol, or spa at all. Service is unresponsive and don’t really care. Bad management with poor skills. The rooms were very hot in October with no air or way to cool down.

I recently stayed at the Castle Hotel and I must say My family and I were extremely disappointed. The Hotel and grounds were beautiful . The service was extremely lacking. We arrived at the hotel at 6:45 PM their was no one at the front desk just a sign they had stepped away. We called And texted the number on the sign and 15 minutes later a rude gentleman arrived. We explained we made arrangements for late check out. We were told ok but please leave early on Sunday we are booked. When we entered the room it had no hand soap so we had to constantly climb in the bathtub to grab the soap on the wall. It also did not have extra toilet paper. We went downstairs to advise the front desk and he was shocked and told us come back later . when we did their was no one again at the front desk. We did not feel safe in the hotel because the hotel shut down and their was no one at the front desk after a certain time. Sunday Morning we went to see the complimentary breakfast Which was again lacking. Their were dry muffins, stale bagels and weak coffee. No one was present to ask for anything and people were piling their dishes on a dirty tray. The juice cups and coffee mugs ran out with no refills. We booked the Castle for a memorable experience and we received less then mediocre. I would have booked the sleepy hollow hotel for half the price if I knew how we would have been treated. I am sorry I never leave bad reviews and always want to boost up businesses but the Castle Hotel treated us like Charity and they were doing us a favor giving us a room. Clearly with the price we paid they were not.

We had the worst experience at this hotel. Somehow there were 2 reservations under our name. They refused to take 1 of the incorrect booking off the bill. Currently they don’t even have the restaurant or spa open. We would never recommend this hotel. The manager was not pleasant and just didn’t care. I know they didn’t lose a booking because of this mistake as they have several rooms available for the nights that we are staying.

This hotel has a lot of pros and cons. The property is beautiful and there are games on the property including a large and normal size chess board, a bocce court, and cornhole. The pool was very nice, although it could have used a vacuum clean up. The signage both outside and inside was very poor, leading us to get lost going to the pool and unable to find the gym. The interior is outdated but clean and the rooms are huge. The TV, however, was very small, and came with two remotes for cable and a firestick and with instructions on how to use both. When I tried to access the firestick for streaming, the remote would not work. I had to call staff who changed the batteries, and when this still did not work, they brought up several other firesticks and remotes to try them all out on the TV to get them to work and see what remote went with what firestick. Eventually, a working firestick and remote was hooked up, however, the screen on the TV had a black border all around it making the picture on a small TV even smaller, and difficult to see what we were watching. The staff, particularly David, were very kind and helpful throughout the visit. The spa and restaurant were both closed, despite an activity fee still being charged. Overall, I would not have minded all of the cons of this hotel had it been half the price, and not advertised as being a luxury hotel. This still was okay, but absolutely not worth what they are charging.

I made a reservation months ago, and recently I got an email saying my reservation was cancelled, but I hadn't cancelled it. I called the hotel to find out what happened, thinking it was a mistake. After multiple attempts at calling, I finally got someone on the phone who could tell me they cancelled it because the hotel was overbooked. Not sure why they kept taking reservations if they were full or why I was chosen to get bumped. I asked to speak with the manager and they gave me a phone number and email address. When I called the number it went to a voicemail that was a different person, not the manager's name. Doesn't seem like a well-run operation. I don't think I've ever before called a hotel in the middle of the day and had the phone just ring forever with nobody ever picking up. Based on the terrible reviews I'm probably better off not going.
