Room was cramped, felt like a travel lodge bolted to a nice old building. The curtains did not block much light, the pole being very wonky. The bathroom was not of a very good standard. For the price we expected more than just a basic stay.
Breakfast service was unusual to say the least - we arrived early to the restaurant and asked if it would be OK. The waiter responded with "well, I can hardly kick you out can I?".

Me and my Husband visited Stonefield Castle for the first time on Friday for our Anniversary and are already looking at dates to go back. Huge thanks to the lovely staff for all the wee touches that made our stay so special. Would highly recommend to anyone, it was enchanting, we loved exploring and of course the beautiful views of the loch. The food was amazing and our room super spacious. Everyone was just so nice and helpful.

The exterior of the building upon arrival is impressive and the staff very welcoming. The interior is somewhat underwhelming, though peaceful and comfortable. The bar area provides a nice gathering spot and the service and prices are very good. The library is a quaint spot to sit and read. The view from the restaurant is lovely and the staff are very good, the food was just ok, nothing special. We ate dinner and breakfast and felt we paid too much for both meals. The biggest disappointment was the actual rooms. Our 2 rooms were dated and a bit knocked around, only 3 star for cleanliness. The property needs updating or maintenance at the very least but I'm sure it is costly. We did not feel the wow that we hoped for when compared to other past castle stays. We wish them well however will not return.

We stayed two nights here on our way to catch the steamer for Islay.. Hotel is very imposing and has beautiful ground in an elevated position overlooking Loch Fyne. We had one of the better rooms which was large and very comfortable.

This hotel is well located for the ferry to Islay. The grounds are lovely, and the staff we encountered were warm and friendly. We enjoyed our meal in the bistro, and the breakfast was good, too. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

From the creaking old lift to the excellent meal we had, this hotel is delightful. Slightly shabby, but extremely comfortable. The staff are all the sort who are obviously as happy to be there as we ourselves. We had an excellent meal - seafood from Loch Fyne, a part of which was outside the window. My husband had trout, beautifully fresh, and I had mussels - I love mussuls, but these were among the best I have enjoyed. A pleasant aperitif in the friendly bar, again overlooking the loch, was much enjoyed. Our only regret was that we were staying only one night, and had a ferry to catch in the morning, so we did not have time to explore the gardens properly. We loved being here - very highly recommended.
