The hotel is located in a very quiet fishing village with a seafront promenade in front of the hotel. This is perfect for a morning and evening walk. In the village there are a few small shops, a restaurant and a Spar shop. The Spar is well stocked and perfect for picking up water ad this isn’t provided at the hotel despite it being all inclusive. The location was perfect for me, pretty, quiet and relaxing. I booked a sea view suite and I loved the balcony with sun loungers. Having this private space was great. Lovely spot with a great view and the constant sound of the ocean. I would definitely recommend spending more to have a sea view. During my stay I found some issues which were disappointing, firstly the cleanliness of my room and it was also dated and tired looking. I did report to Reception how dirty the balcony floor was on day 2 and this was addressed. The bed was also very hard and the pillows were uncomfortable, I didn’t sleep well as a result. I also felt the pool area could have been cleaner and the loose tiles around the pool created a loud noise when walked on. The issue of guests reserving sun loungers early in the morning was so frustrating! Some loungers were reserved and not used until the afternoon or not at all! This should be addressed by the hotel. I was often woken early (5.30am onwards) by maintenance/delivery/cleaning staff, this was also frustrating as I booked the holiday specifically to have a much needed rest. I found the quality of the drinks poor, wine was from a tap and wasn’t pleasant and cocktails from a slush machine! I stuck mostly to Prosecco and rum. I am a vegetarian and the selection was very limited. I mostly ate the same things each day as there weren’t vegetarian options to choose from instead of the meat/fish options. For all meals, I sat outside which was a lovely area. The restaurant staff work incredibly hard to clean tables promptly and the restaurant was always well organised and tidy. In general I didn’t feel that this was a 4 star hotel and in many areas I was disappointed. I would say that there needs to be a better eye for detail in the hotel to improve the guest experience in the key areas.

We had a nice enough holiday at R2 Hotel Bahía Playa, but there were several issues that made the experience fall short of what you'd expect from a 4-star resort. Our arrival set the tone: after a full day of travelling, we were directed to the bar by reception just before closing time, hoping to grab a drink. Unfortunately, the bar staff—particularly a man named Manuel—refused to serve us, even a soft drink. His attitude was rude and dismissive, which left a sour taste right at the start of our stay. That said, a plate of food had been kindly set out in our room (cold meats, cheeses, fruit, and bread), which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. The hotel itself is in need of some general maintenance. Our bathroom had visible mould, floor tiles were chipped, and the area around the pool had uneven flooring that felt unsafe in places. These are small things, but they add up and don’t reflect the standards expected at a 4-star property. The food was another let-down. Overall, it was average and bland, with little variety day-to-day. On top of that, we had two particularly concerning incidents: my partner found a piece of wood in his dinner, and I discovered a bit of sellotape in mine. These things really undermine confidence in the hygiene and food preparation standards. As a result, we ended up walking to a local restaurant twice and otherwise resorted to eating cold cuts in our room from the on-site shop, or just sticking to very basic buffet items like chips, bread, and cheese. Another frustration was the sun lounger situation. Despite multiple signs stating that reserving loungers is not allowed, every single one was "claimed" by 8:30am with towels—yet many were left empty for hours. This policy clearly isn't enforced and it negatively impacts the experience for other guests. One major issue that should have been handled far more seriously was a loud, aggressive German guest who was repeatedly rude to staff—at one point reducing a member of the team to tears. His behaviour made those around him uncomfortable, and frankly, he should have been asked to leave. It’s disappointing that management didn’t step in more assertively. As for the drinks: cocktails were basic and came from a machine—not fresh at all—and everything was served in paper cups, which detracted from the experience further. For an all-inclusive resort, it felt very budget at times. Overall, while the holiday had its good moments—decent weather, and a generally relaxing environment—the service, upkeep, food quality, and guest management issues mean this hotel really doesn’t live up to its 4-star rating. We wouldn’t return unless significant improvements are made.
