Amazing
HHoIrisExcellent location, 5min walk to train/ bus station and convenience store. Like the design of the hotel and there is outdoor and indoor hot springs on 9/F, very chill when soaking in hot spring outdoor in winter time.
Breakfast is 2,800yen per adult and half price for kid. The ambience is super nice and the food is fairly good. The breakfast starts at 6:45am, a good choice for those who need to catch the early bus.
PPandaManiaHotel is located very near to the train station. The room has kitchen facilities and washing machine. Service at check in reception was however lacking. Staff needs to be trained.
AAnonymous UserThe check in process might be delayed due to peak hours but we still have a good impression from the receptionist.
The room is spacious and we are able to open up our 2 big sizes luggage.
This hotel also offers private onsen (need to book from the receptionist, pay during check out).
GGuest UserThe hotel is conveniently located close to the train station and bus station, about 8 minutes walk. It's also relatively close to the old part of the town. Breakfast is not worth it and overpriced. The reception staff mean well but lack customer service skills and believe they are there to give orders. The 3 pm check in rule is appaling and if you happen to arrive at 2.45 pm you are still 'instructed' to wait until 3 pm. This is silly and shows lack of customer appreciation who booked for the service. They have a Spa on the top floor which is free and good experience to try it. Of course separate for men and women!
PPanatdaThe location is the best around here only 3-5mins walk from the station either bus or train,
And the view from the balcony is superb.
The room is quite big and clean.
Only 7mins walk to a old town and the river

GGuest UserStayed there with as a family of 3. While I really wanted to like the ryokan due to the warm service and great feedback from friends, my own experience was a bit disappointing. We have stayed in many traditional ryokans prior to this and were familiar with the setup. We are appreciative with the warm service and sincere touches; like candies at check in, but the ryokan itself is really quite old and in need of a refresh.
Our room is tucked away in a corner and required us to go down a small flight of stairs to reach. I am not sure if the location meant that is a bit colder than the rest of the rooms but we really did feel cold and the heating was inadequate. The in built heater would also stop and beep in the middle of the night, which led 2 of us falling sick at the start of the trip. We requested for a additional small heater which helped a bit. Second night, our 9yo son also got many mysterious bites all over his leg. He claimed to have seen a bug crawl under the tatami mat but we were not certain and therefore did not feedback to the ryokan as we only had one more remaining night to go. We had only stayed 1 night in nagoya's marriott associa hotel prior to our ryokan visit, and his skin improved after we left Takayama, leading us to think that it might have been the stay there.
GGuest UserLocation: the hotel is located right opposite the train station. When you arrive at the train station, just cross the road and turn right. Right next to the train station is the bus center so it is convenient for those who are taking a day trip to shirakawago and kanazawa like myself.
Facilities: there is a laundromat with only 2 machines for washing and drying on the 2nd floor. The machines only accept 100yen coins and you can exchange at the reception. There is also a sauna on the same floor. There is no weighing scale available.
Room: unfortunately, at the end of May 2025, the hotel was refurbishing their air conditioning system so there was no air conditioning in the room and it was a bit hot at times. Other than that, the room and toilet were quite clean. Water pressure was good. Water temperature was slightly inconsistent but acceptable. Toilet had a faint smell but it wasn’t too bad. I suspect it was the toilet or the shower curtain.
Staff: wonderful service from the hotel staff. They understand and can speak english.
Overall: highly recommended.
AAnonymous UserThis hotel exceeded our expectation! It is very near the Nohi Bus station and the JR Takayama station (3-5 min walk). Although we just stayed overnight, we had a memorable experience in Takayama Ouan. The hotel has a lot of freebies for their guests. They have a booth in the lobby where guests can get free brewed coffee, hot tea, and green lemon iced tea. They also provide free socks since the hotel have tatami flooring. What we also loved about this hotel is the onsen (separate public onsen for male and female, and 3 private onsen). They also have a freezer where guests can get free iced cream after bathing. During past 9 pm, they also have free ramen for their guests. The room is spacious, and the view from our window is also nice (the roads and establishments covered with snow). Aside from the free stuff and great amenities, we also appreciate the kind and friendly staff members. We accidentally lost the luggage claim tag (and we are willing to pay for it) but they didn't charge us anything.
When we go back to Takayama, we will definitely stay here again.
SSvetlanaPerfect breakfast! Very big room for Japan! Onsen is very comfortable. There’s free ice after hot spring - so cool, especially for kids. And welcome drink is so cute. It's a pity that the piano didn't play. The stuff is speaking English. Thank you very much
DDuboisTristanThis place was absolute amazing! By far our favorite place from our whole trip. The location was absolutely perfect for the Takyama festival. We were literally right there with shops and street vendors 50 yards away and the parades would have been right there as well if they weren't canceled due to rain. The rooms were humble and traditional and really added to the experience. The tea in the room was exceptionally good and the traditional Japanese breakfast they served was also delicious and fun to eat. We didn't even know they had a legitimate hot spring on site, but they did! They are Japanese style baths so be ready for that, but the water was therapeutic and so relaxing. I cant recommend this place enough and I would absolute make it a point to visit Takyama and stay here again for a few days on our next trip to Japan. They were such great kind hosts. And I cant believe the price, what an great value. Do yourself a favor and stay here. I'm not sure why the other bad reviews are here I read some of them and they sound like entitled stupid American tourists so ignore them and stay here.
