The Strand has it all: a perfect location right on the water, a charming and professional staff, phenomenal restaurants, and beautiful rooms. Our suite (Room 212) had not one but THREE gorgeous balconies overlooking the Mole and the Atlantic Ocean. And it was beautifully decorated with antique maps of Namibia. In terms of the staff, Sheryl at the front desk was engaging and helpful. (And it was fun for us New Yorkers to hear her speaking Afrikaans.) It was clear that the staff takes good service very seriously; everyone, including the servers at breakfast and the bartenders at Brewer and Butcher, were polite and kind. We had some very interesting conversations with those same bartenders about Namibian culture, and really appreciated their willingness to share their insights with us. In terms of the location, Swakop is very compact, so you can easily walk everywhere. But the waterfront location of the Strand just can't be beaten. After all, one can walk from anywhere to the beach in a matter of minutes. But watching the sun set over the beach from our balconies, while enjoying drinks from the minibar (which were included in our rate), was truly special. Finally, the hotel's seafood restaurant (Ocean Cellar) is spectacular. Definitely our best meal in Swakopmund.
