Windmill Suites Surprise - Phoenix, Ascend Hotel Collection

Every Windmill Suites employee seemed committed to providing outstanding service! The General Manager, Sandra, should be commended. Every special request we made was graciously and promptly fulfilled. The hotel was sparkling clean, and we were comfortable in our suite throughout our stay.

Room was very comfortable and quiet, but the hallway carpets smell bad and need a thorough cleaning or replacement. The buffet breakfast was marginal but adequate. There was no problem with parking. Didn’t use it but the pool appeared well maintained and clean. A small business center would be appreciated.

The bed combined with the bed linens are absolutely amazing!!! I love how comfortable they are!! This is always our go to hotel even for our getaways without kiddos…. Breakfast was delicious and kudos to the new water fall out back!! Thank you to all the staff

Was once a gem, but hard pass now. You can tell this place was pretty nice when it first opened decades ago but it needs redone. The vents in the rooms have gaps in them not secured to wall as they should be and tons of flying bugs come in your room. It’s Arizona there is no avoiding having the air conditioning running so you’re stuck with the bugs. The bathrooms are really dark and the pool had a film of dirt, dust and hair on it. The hot tub was cold and there wasn’t any signage we could see on how to heat it up. The little pond bring lots of various birds to watch, but you can see the bird feces all over the outdoor furniture. The outdoor space would have been great to utilize to sit around or play games in, but I didn’t feel like scrubbing bird feces off of the chairs to sit down. It defeats the entire purpose of going to a hotel so you’re not having to clean up at home. There is at least half a dozen homeless men loitering around the parking lot by your vehicle and you never know if your safety is in jeopardy or not. One man was very evidently on a high of something and very confused wondering about. There is one man running around the property cleaning and being helpful but I imagine there’s only so much one superstar employee can do with an outdated property.

Everything was great with the only exception being WIFI coverage. When the hotel is busy connection was impossible to get on the third floor where we stayed. Other than that room was great and area was quiet and comfortable. Would stay again.

Short and sweet. . .file this review under "you get what you pay for". Stayed at this hotel on April 27th/28th 2025. Can't complain about the price of the room/suite ($215 for 2 nights). However, as others have noted this hotel needs a major makeover - hallway carpets are absolutely the worst we've ever seen in any kind of hotel - not sure who thought the carpet pattern looked good for any kind of public space; pool area is about as bad - pool water is not clean and the jaccuzi isn't working; breakfast was edible but that's about the only positive we can say about it (note: and the gal serving didn't crack a smile and/or good morning to a single person she was serving); outdoor lawn area looks a bit worn and the overall building just needs a fresh paint job and some nice/new landscaping. Our room was functional although the lighting in the room was the darkest we've ever encountered. TV remote in the main room was a technical challenge to try and work when scanning the channels and couldn't figure out how the heck to get a "channel guide" to pop up on the screen. On the positive side, the water pressure in the shower was excellent and the bed was nicely appointed. There are also quite a few shopping opportunities within a mile or two of the hotel off of the main highway (Walmart; Target; Dollar Tree; etc). Also saw quite a few fast food outlets. So this isn't the worst hotel we've ever stayed in but there's literally no reason for us to ever come back - despite the low room price. We will pay a bit more next time and find a hotel that offers a better experience.
