Great lodge, good food, game drives could be better. (Too much in the dark, would start the afternoon drives 1 hour earlier)
Drinks are good and very affordable. Remarkable that you have to pay for hot chocolate at breakfast.

We just returned from a very disappointing 2 nights at Bakubung for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Firstly I informed the lodge that it was our anniversary and wanted to have something special in the room but they completely ignored this. The game drives are like a sausage factory where you are bundled on to a big bus and driven on the same route with the driver just hoping that someone else has spotted something as he drives past everything as he isn’t even looking into the bush. Then the buffet food is cold at every meal with rude restaurant staff. Our room smelled like sewerage from the shower drain but when we informed reception, she barely acknowledged it and just wrote something in a book. There is no personal touch here with no customer service at all. I would not recommend staying at this property.

The location is really great. The rest of the experience was unfortunately disappointing. Everyone was a bit off and customer service was not present at any time. The negative highlight was when we found a bat in the bathroom after dinner. It was very unpleasant as bats carry all sorts of viruses and their droppings were all over the room. It took more than 30 minutes for someone to come and remove it. But no one thought to clean the room again. It is a hygienic disaster and the night was terrible, we could hardly sleep because the room was so dirty. For 360 EUR / night I expect better. Will neither come back nor recommend it.

What a fantastic place for a family and especially children. We had a fantastic time and could relax because the children enjoyed themselves so much. All the staff were amazing and helpful. A huge shout out to the house keeping team. They are truly a phenomenal secret. The rooms were meticulously cleaned and restocked with tea and coffee etc and the little treats left each night were appreciated . Their honesty is also highly commendable. Many thanks indeed. We felt spoilt by them. The restaurant was most enjoyable and we enjoyed all the food which seemed to be in abundance. On the financial side this is real value for money as it includes game drives into the national park a big plus.

This was one of our best family experiences ever. From the staff, to the games drives, to the accommodation - everything was superb. We were also fortunate to see the entire Big 5! The food was out-of-this world! Thank you for an incredible experience Bakubung!

Very authentic lodge and good game drives included in price daily. Executive room very nice with king bed large ensuite and couch plus balcony. Coffee machine which was a bonus and daily clean towels plus turn down beds in the evening. Abundance of food buffet style with quite a variety.

We stayed at Bakubung in August 2024 and absolutely loved our stay. The room was nice and although we had maintenance out every day due to a faulty toilet, we didn’t let it ruin our stay. The pool was very cold due to it being winter in South Africa, however the daily sunshine meant it was tolerable. The beer is nice and cheap (about £2 a pint in English money) and the food in the restaurant was excellent. All staff were superb and the service was great. However the highlight of the stay was the daily safari drives. The guides are absolutely superb, regardless of the driver, but a special mention to Walter who we had twice, he is excellent at educating and providing details about animals, but also tracking them down, finding our second set of lions on day 3. He really is a credit to the Bakubung team. We saw all of the big 5 much to our absolute delight. A must do is the Boma meal, a really lovely meal in the bush, with a live African dancing and singing performance in the firelight. Don’t forget binoculars, you see so much more, especially at the watering hole at the lodge. We can’t wait to go again.

Had an amazing four days. Service was good, food great and the rooms very comfortable. We had a couples massage which was also amazing. However, the real star is the safari trips. We saw close up elephants, zebra, giraffes, rhino and lions. We are saw a cheetah, leopard and hippos. Special shout out to Terran who was the best!
