The hotel's cozy, spacious rooms with great beds and views are praised. Centrally located near the harbor and Snaefellnes Peninsula. Guests appreciate the friendly staff and high-quality breakfast with a variety of options.

The shower was the best we had in Iceland! Very hot and excellent pressure. The room was small but clean; the bed medium comfortable. The staff was excellent and really helped with trip planning. The town is a long drive from sights on the Snaefellsnes peninsula, so consider that when booking. But the town is lovely and there is a nice walk above the ferry pier with an outlook toward the Westfjords. This is more of a bed and breakfast (without the breakfast) than a hotel. As with other things in Iceland, it is very expensive and not a good value when judged against other lodging of similar quality in other places.

we stopped through Stykkisholmur for the night to take the ferry the next morning. we were greeted by Marta and felt right at home. the room was cozy, with a great shower and quality products in the bathroom. Marta and Krys made a beautiful breakfast the next morning before the 11:00 ferry. would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Lovely quirky B&B centrally located and very welcoming, with delightful breakfasts. Being an old building rooms are a little on the small side and sound tends to travel but generally very comfortable. Perfect for a couple of nights stay. Recommended.

Tiny rooms with deceptive photos. Our “supreme room” was so small, on either side of a queen bed there wasn’t enough room to lay the suitcase flat open. Bathroom is right opposite the bed, with a glass door that is 5 inches above the floor - you can see directly into the bathroom from the bedroom through the closed door (as there is nowhere else to go), and hear everything. The photos on the website are descriptive - we compared directly the photos of the room and the actual room - they are edited to add an extra window and more space. Tiny lobby and everyone goes there in the evening because the rooms have no space to hang out. The town is pretty remote and far from everything, there is nothing to do at all in it, the closest home is 1.5 hour drive, and with a hotel that has no space to read a book, we left after one night even though we paid for more.

The shower pressure, the kindness and warmth of the staff, the house and the village are unmatched. What a gem, a true pleasure to get to stay there! The breakfast is not only a pleasure for the eyes, but delicious and filling. The coffee so tasty it keeps you energized for an entire hiking day to the top of Snæfellsjökull. If there ever is a town you immediately think to yourself, should I move here? Stykkisholmur is that town, and Hotel Egilsen is where I‘d want to move in/or at least spend all my afternoons at.

We stayed at Hotel Egilsen based on a recommendation from friends who visited Iceland a couple of years ago, and it was an excellent choice. The hotel exudes a cozy, homely charm, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our two-night stay was wonderful. On our first night, we were greeted by Chris (Krzysztof), who helped us check in. He was fantastic—friendly, approachable, and easy to chat with. Knowing we were hungry after our drive from Reykjavik, he not only recommended an excellent seafood restaurant but also helped us secure a reservation. The hotel features 10 guest rooms and a charming common area downstairs with several tables where guests can relax, enjoy a hot tea, and read a book. Complimentary coffee and tea are provided, and for a small fee, you can purchase beer, wine, or even a fine drink like Johnnie Walker. The ambiance is delightful and inviting. After dinner, my wife and I spent a couple more hours chatting with Chris, who gave us fantastic recommendations for exploring the peninsula. The next morning, we were warmly welcomed by Marta, who prepared an incredible breakfast. The spread included smoothies, salmon, cheese, yogurt with granola, and fresh fruit—everything was fresh and delicious. Marta was equally friendly and easy to talk to, making us feel right at home. It’s clear that both Chris and Marta genuinely love what they do. Their passion for hospitality and their enthusiasm for interacting with guests are evident in everything they do. If you’re planning to stay in Stykkishólmur, Hotel Egilsen should be at the top of your list. We visited in November 2024 (off-season) and stayed on a Saturday and Sunday. We’re already planning to return with our kids next time we visit Iceland and will definitely stay here again.

Cozy, clean, hotel, with friendly staff. I took a solo trip in Iceland and got a warm welcome and hot tea from staff as soon as I arrived. It was cold and windy, and my third floor room was small and very cozy and comfortable. Breakfast was huge and delicious. I highly recommend this small hotel. It was one of my nicest stays in two weeks of travel in Iceland.
