Food was not even good to be nice. The Scottish owner was really cheerful but the wife who's a mauritian was not friendly at all, not even a HI, and the food was made and freezed. No flavoured, Roti was like Frisbee. Fish was so dry and tasteless. The owner said it himself, that the food was made by the mother in law before she traveled 3 weeks before we got there. So picture that. We had baby food. So disappointed. Whatever good feedback is here is obviously friends' feedback.

Not what we we expecting, we had booked The Richmond Hotel and turned up and found The Crystal Hotel. The large unicorn in the window should have given us a clue. On entry you are met with a reception desk and a lounge room off to each side of the hall. No sign of a bar or restaurant as advertised so we ate out. Bedroom was compact but the bed comfortable for the time we were there. Would I go again No, but only due to crystals and therapy retreats aren't my thing.

Checked in. Went to the room. Turned round and left saying goodbye to my £160 prepayment. That should say it all but I have to do 200 characters. The cobweb’s and dead spiders on the inside of the windows should give an indication of the standard.

We’ve stayed here numerous times and it never disappoints! Phil and Sarina are wonderful hosts. The food is varied and freshly prepared. The hotel’s location in beautiful Strathpeffer is perfect for a walkabout in the village. We’ve become friends with many locals and feel right at home when here!

On first impressions we should of turned around… Absolutely filthy, cobwebs everywhere, Perspex over the windows, the bath was disgustingly filthy and stained and you’d need to be a dwarf to fit under the shower not that I had planned to step in that bath. The towels looked really old and grubby and smelt of curry!!! On the landing under the carpet there was obviously a whole in the floor which I fell in. As for the reviews about delicious food!!! A bit of frozen fish, 1/4 of a lemon and something that was meant to resemble chips that were cold, slimy and limp. It was so bad I had a gin and tonic but couldn’t drink it because the glass wasn’t very clean and then my husband checked the date on the bottle of fevertree which was 2 1/2 years out of date!!! My friend had a red wine and when she got near the bottom of the glass there was a load of red sludge( obviously been there a while too) Thankfully we didn’t have time for breakfast as catching the ferry at Ullapool. To add insult I was charged £10 for “extra” cleaning because of my dogs! £130 😡😡😡 for a night in possibly the worst place I’ve ever stayed. My dogs are used to better. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

We stayed here in April when there was still a sprinkling of snow. The outside of the building is stunning and the garden is interesting and pretty with peaceful spots to sit and relax. The hosts are very friendly and very helpful giving us tips for walks in the surrounding area. The hot tub was great after a day’s walking. As it was still during covid restrictions there was only one large table in the dining room so we ate our evening meal in the bar. The Mauritian food was delicious and there were plenty of options. Phil is a tremendous host, working really hard to give you a good stay as well as being fun and chatty. Inside the hotel the decor is quirky and connected to the healing aspect of the business eg. giant gongs and huge crystal singing bowls! The dining room where breakfast is eaten had an informal set up with a bar billiards table which we put to good use. There’s also an ingenious use of an old piano. The rooms (presumably) were re-fitted in the 70’s or 80’s which doesn’t compliment the grand Victorian style of the house but the hosts have done their best with these restrictions with cheerful colours and comfortable, cosy and spotlessly clean rooms. It’s a great place to visit, with friendly helpful hosts and delicious food.
