I realise that standards/taste and expectations vary, but our experience was not what we'd expected. Firstly the building is attractive, the garden area pleasant. It's on a corner by a reasonably busy and fast road, traffic noise is an issue, especially the boy racers at night, but it's beyond their control. Stairs to the accommodation are narrow, uneven and winding which can't be helped but there is a finger trap hazard on the banister. The carpet is filthy. Which needs rectifying. The room we had was small, the bathroom so small you can't dry yourself after a shower with the door shut. The bathroom has a sliding door with 1 inch holes drilled through it for ventilation and it does not close properly. No toilet roll holder, meaning you have to put the roll on the floor, sink or on the cistern. This was supposed to be a superior room. The mattress is one of the most uncomfortable I've been on, the pillows too. The bedlinen is not great quality. I wasn't able to sleep due to road noise, the uncomfortable bed and pillows, the external lights immediately outside the window being on until approaching 2 am and the noise from other guests, as the walls are so thin you can hear them talking, moving around in bed and using the bathroom. Plus guests going outside to smoke banging the fire door. There was a lot of screaming, shouting and arguing on our second night, which was very loud and went on for sometime. The staff are at best indifferent, we ordered things we never received, food and drinks, food was badly cooked ( we did get a reduced bill for one meal I couldn't eat) and breakfast was such a disappointment I asked for just toast on my 2nd morning. Full English condusted of 2 slices of very overcooked streaky bacon even though it says back bacon on the menu, 1 sausage, a table spoon of baked beans, half a tomato, 6 bits of mushroom and a slice of toast. We stay in a LOT of hotels etc and this was the worst full English breakfast I've ever had. Nobody asked about our stay, and there was no-one was there to speak to at checkout. The pub seems very popular, with large noisy groups which is obviously not the pubs fault, but it made it less than enjoyable to sit and try to have a meal. Positives are very close to Stratford upon avon. Free car park, serves Indian food, busy and lively if that's your thing.
