Ettington Chase

We chose this hotel for valentines weekend. The pictures on the website made it look amazing. However, amazing is not what we would describe our stay as. On the website, you are led to believe you will be staying in the main house. However, on arrival there is a massive extension to the side. The reception area was very clean and nicely decorated. As you walk through the building heading towards the accommodation it just gets worse and worse. The place is huge but it felt so empty and unwelcoming. We booked a standard double room which again, on the website looked very nice. Our room had mould in the corners, dust everywhere, the carpet was disgusting and our view was of a skip and shipping containers. We decided to eat at the bar so I can’t comment on the restaurant food. We each had a Margherita pizza, something you can’t really go wrong with. It was undercooked but so dry at the same time. Massive slices of thick tomato and cheese which wasn’t fully melted! After this, we weren’t holding out much hope for the breakfast. After an awful nights sleep, doors slamming and being able to hear every word the people in the next room were saying, aswell as hearing them using the bathroom, we headed for breakfast. I was disappointed in the lack of vegan/vegetarian options so I just settled for toast and vegan butter. I’m just glad we had the breakfast included and didn’t pay the £14 charge for it! The swimming pool and hot tub I can’t complain on, it would have been nice if the sauna was working though! After showering and feeling more dirty than before we showered, We decided to not stay the second night because of all of these reasons. When we checked out they didn’t ask what the reasons for us leaving were or if we even had a nice stay.
