Our stay at Hughson Hall was a delight. From the welcoming arrival, wine and cheese, to the tray of coffee and treats in the morning to the three (3!) course gourmet breakfast, our hosts, Debra and George Mackie made us feel like honored guests in their home. And what a beautiful home it is. The historic mansion has been lovingly, and period appropriately restored and decorated. The decor is both elegant and comfortable. Our suite was quiet, convenient, and well appointed (we appreciated the air conditioning in the heatwave). The gardens surrounding the house have been thoughtfully planned and enhanced the beauty of the Victorian -Italianate exterior. Be sure to read Debra's excellent history of the home detailing the various stories of the lives of previous owners since 1875 and the renovations that have taken place over the years as well as amusing anecdotes from the Festival years. Would highly recommend!

We had the most lovely stay at Hughson Hall! It is a beautiful classic house with lovely landscaped grounds and patio area and a lovely place to stay if you are attending the theatre or for any other reason. Our rooms in the West Wing were very elegant and comfortable. We have never been so well hosted as by Debra and Gordon! On arrival, after a tour of the house, we were served wine with charcuterie board on the front balcony which was so enjoyable. In the morning we were brought juice and coffee to our door and then, for breakfast, we had the most delicious and elegant three-course gourmet meal in the dining room. Our hosts were very kind and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hughson Hall!

This is our second stay at Hughson Hall, the first being two years ago. We loved it then and we love it still. Debra and George are consummate hosts: warm, accommodating and attentive without being intrusive. Our stay included many extra touches, a standout being the charcuterie board groaning with home-made bites that we enjoyed with a glass of wine upon arrival. The delicious 3-course breakfasts are incredible -- a feast for the eye as well as the taste buds. Hughson Hall has been restored tastefully and is full of interesting antiques and objects reflecting its 150 years. It is also immaculately clean and extremely well-maintained. The grounds, which were just beginning to burst into Spring glory in late May, are gorgeous. We have stayed in the West Wing as well as the East Wing and both rooms are exceptionally quiet, comfortable and characterful. Hughson Hall is located on a quiet street in a residential neighbourhood and is just a short walk to the theatres and restaurants. Cannot recommend it enough.

A beautiful home full of interesting antiques in every room. Tastefully restored and very comfortable furnishings. The bed was so comfortable and with an adjoining bathroom and also a sitting room. A small pantry on the same floor with cold drinks, snacks and lovely freshly baked cookies. In a perfect neighbourhood not far from the theatres. Debra and George were very gracious and full of stories. Breakfast was 3 courses all freshly made and exquisitely presented. A great find in Stratford.

Upon a fair eve, my wife and I did chance upon a most enchanting respite in Stratford, where history and hospitality intertwine in a harmony most divine. From the moment we crossed the threshold of this venerable abode—one graced by none other than the illustrious Christopher Plummer—we were met with a warmth most rare, a welcome that bespoke both grace and genuine care. Our hosts, like players most skilled upon the stage, did guide us through this grand dwelling, where echoes of Stratford’s past linger in every polished wood and carefully curated relic. As if to bid us truly at home, they presented a charcuterie board most bounteous, a feast to delight both eye and palate, setting the tone for an eve of contented repose. Yet the morn brought forth an even greater spectacle—a three-course breakfast, wrought by hands most deft and devoted. Each morsel, crafted from scratch, bespoke a love for the culinary arts, a testament to the thought and detail woven into every aspect of our stay. Here, indeed, lies an inn where no corner is left unkempt, no comfort overlooked, and no guest uncherished. Immaculate in both spirit and setting, this Stratford sanctuary is a treasure most rare—a great value, beyond doubt, and a place I commend with highest praise. Should thou seek a retreat rich in history, hospitality, and heart, look no further, for here is an experience most worth thy time. Verily, we shall return anon!

The house is absolutely beautiful and Debra & George have uncovered and restored so much of it’s history and every peice on display has its own story that they could tell you about. We stayed in the East Wing which is so grand, with the snow falling outside and the electric fireplace on you never want to leave the cosiness. We went during “off season” for the theatres but there were plenty of great restaurants to choose from and the house is only a 20 minute walk from downtown. Debra and George recommended a number and even told us about some community events that were a lot of fun. What really stood out to us were the breakfasts. All homemade, fresh and so delicious and detailed in their presentation. Staying in Hughson Hall was a weekend we will never forget and we hope to do again. Thankyou Debra & George for going above and beyond in every way to make our “getaway from the kids” the best it could be. The care and eye for detail you put into HH shows in every aspect and we feel so lucky to have stayed at your B&B. Jenna & Thess

If you are looking for an exceptional place to stay in Stratford that is top notch, this is the place. Hughson Hall is full of history, beautifully restored and the host Deborah and George make you feel at home. I surprised my hubby with a birthday outing with a stay in East wing room. We can’t say enough - the room was spacious, full of wonderful historical artifacts, we were warmly greeted upon arrival, amazing touches throughout our visit ( homemade charcuterie items. amazing delicious 3-course breakfast). This place has character and charm. We highly recommend and look forward to returning. If coming to stay in Stratford you cannot miss out on staying here!

Our annual sojourns to Stratford always include four plays and a stay in Hughson Hall. While the plays have occasionally been uneven, Hughson Hall is consistently wonderful. Hughson Hall truly epitomizes graciousness and reflects the love, talent, and creativity of its hosts. When you arrive, you are greeted by gardens that are photo-worthy. George or Debra show you to your room, which is decorated with Stratford-appropriate memorabilia. You are served a delicious charcuterie board on your first night, much of which Debra and George have prepared themselves. When you return from the play, you slip into an extremely comfortable bed. You awaken the next morning to a coffee/tea and juice service prior to being served an amazing breakfast. The breakfasts are as much works-of-art as they are culinary pleasures. We never leave without making a reservation for the next year.

We eloped to Hughson Hall. From the moment we initially visited (out of the blue) to the day when we left a happily married couple Debra and George were wonderful hosts. The service was excellent, whatever we needed they provided. The food was to die for. It looked and tasted superb. The wedding cake was decadent. The breakfast was a work of art that tasted divine. Everything was organised for us and went very smoothly in beautiful surroundings. This might sound too good to be true, but it is true!!! We were blown away. We will be back.
