Lunch today in the restaurant. We have eaten regularly in the Wellington Arms Hotel, and the food has always been delicious. Service - particulatly the time for an aperitif to arrive - has been variable. Today was not their finest hour. To start with, our waitress couldn't understand the cocktails we ordered - even when we pointed to them very clearly on the menu. After a signifucant delay, a eaiter brought drinks, but one was not as ordered. So further delay. After this time delay, the starters arrived. My wife's cauliflower velouté was a rather small portion. My duck liver parfait was very tasty. Then to mains. Here, portions were smalk - disappointingly so. My wife's smoked haddock was tasty, but largelt potato, and my mushroom risotto came in a dish identical to that of my wife's starter - i.e. a small starter portion. I complained to the waiter, but no remedy was offered. Certainly not their finest hour.
