Centrally located, with friendly and attentive staff. Guests appreciate the immaculate cleanliness, spacious rooms with lovely views, and delicious breakfast. However, some found the accommodation to be too busy.

Food is always amazing and prices are reasonable , never had a bad meal yet and I have been many a time , staff are pleasant. First time I have tried cauliflower cheese soup . Does not sound too nice but my days , it was superb . Best soup I have had in a long time . Portion sizes are good also .

Two single beds put together, I couldn’t even sleep on it. it was so noisy as well with the music,I had to lay horizontal to sleep in the bed. The double room was so tiny it doesn’t look like the one that’s in that picture. It was cold. And no parking space in the car park. She just asked if I was a resident, told me to park told to park in the street. And for breakfast I told her what I wanted and what I didn’t want. And she me gave me what I didn’t want and didn’t give me what I wanted and had the cheek to say is the egg on the plate obviously it wasn’t.

I went with family to have a celebration meal food was good .We were delighted to see disabled access into the building as part of the renovation work and extension that was completed recently as one of our party was in a wheelchair. The downside to our visit was there are no disabled toilets Surely this should have been considered when doing renovation work .when speaking to a member of staff we were told it was an old building . Disappointed as when speaking to another person in wheelchair there they had to leave because there was not a disabled toilet .

We made a dinner reservation, admittedly we were 16 minutes late. We entered an almost empty dining room (1 table occupied by a couple and a private party in a separate room), and the ladies behind the bar asked if they could help. We informed them we had a reservation, they looked unimpressed and told us we were 20 minutes late… so rude! I should have walked back out at that point but I was hungry. Oh, and one other diner appeared half an hour after us so they didn’t exactly need the table for anyone else. Yes we were slightly late but we weren’t keeping the kitchen or waiting staff there by ourselves, so the greeting was somewhat uncalled for. Food was decent though, so 2 stars, but the welcome soured the experience for me.

Stayed here for four nights while visiting some of the famous rhododendron gardens in the area. Lovely room overlooking the loch, parking at the door and (mostly) very helpful staff made for a very pleasant stay. The fact that the restaurant was filled with local guests each evening tells you all you need to know; the food was for the most part very good but occasionally standards slipped when the kitchen was under pressure, and there were one or two short tempers among the front of house staff, but none of that should be allowed to detract from the overall excellent standards of service. All-in-all we had a very enjoyable time - shame about the weather!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely bedroom. Bed was so comfortable. Staff couldn’t be more attentive and so pleasant- nothing was too much trouble for them. Good location and great restaurant. Can highly recommend this hotel. Certainly stay here again if in Stranraer.

Being early for the ferry to Belfast we (my wife, sister, brother-in law and myself, called into the Craignelder Hotel at around 15.30 on Sunday 4th February and went into the Bar/Restaurant hoping to get some bar food and drinks. We entered the bar and went to sit in corner seats below the TV when a lady behind the bar, chewing Chewing Gum, said, in a vert curt tone "you can,t sit there, thats being set for diners", We said that we would like to eat and we were told in no uncertain terms that lunch was over and that the evening menu was not available until 18.00. Thats fine, but when we wen to sit down we were told that the only place we could sit was on the bar stools. My sister is 68 and suffers from Crones and has a Stoma so sitting on a bar stool was not OK. Rather than offend, by walking out, which we had discussed, we decided to order a drink and hope that the mood would change. It didn't and we drank up and went to the wonderful Central Cafe in the town. Should the snow be 12" deep, the ferry cancelled and the Craignelder the only hotel opened, I will never set foot in it again. Any wonder Stranraer is a ghost town following the Ferry Terminal Closure with a welcome like we received at Craignelder.
