The Moon has great character, a fascinating history (I'm distantly related to many of the past owners from the 1800s), excellent amenities, and excellent breakfasts. I enjoyed my dinners there, too. Josh and Emma from the staff were both very friendly and helpful to me. The parking is easy, the inn centrally located in the heart of the village, and lots of local characters stop by for a pint and folks from further afield for a meal. A quintessential Derbyshire experience. Not my first time staying there and certainly not my last.

Staff amazing, room below average.
The family room was ok. It was a little damp in places and smelt fusty, I’m guessing because the bathroom has no window. The kids beds were single sofa beds which was ok as they are little. The flooring is warping and the bathroom didn’t feel entirely clean. The shower wasn’t great and pressure terrible while the temperature kept changing. The hot water was scolding hot in the mixer tap too. The staff however were amazing. Food great and service at the pub brilliant. The room was separate to the pub and certainly not worth the 4 stars it states. Perhaps those within the pub are nicer. It was over £300 for 2 nights which we felt was a bit steep!

Delightful place for a weekend or overnight stay
Beautiful little town. The room is spacious with stunning decor and a lovely, comfortable armchair. That was perfect for me because I wanted to do a bit of creative work. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. The hosts are friendly and the pub serves delicious meals - the chef can cook! After checkout I spent a few hours in the pub (still closed) to work. That was very kind indeed.

Two night stay
We stayed at The Moon Inn for two nights as part of a trip away
The staff were lovely and friendly and the food was amazing. The breakfast kept us going all day
The were some issue with the heating but this was realised by them putting us in another and the staff were very helpful in getting extra heaters. Apparently the heating failed due to a frozen pipe and consider the temperature was -9 you can't blame them for that
Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area

Last minute booking.
Great service and a great room. Bar staff were so accommodating and friendly. Pub food and breakfast was superb too.
We booked last minute on the way home from Oxfordshire late in the day and arrived early evening but the room was perfect and staff so helpful.

Acceptable accommodation, comfy bed
On the plus side the beds were comfy and the rooms acceptable.
The rooms need to be refreshed, in my bathroom the shower door was loose, the toilet roll holder broken and the shower head need a good scrub.
The drawers still had remnants of someones tablets.
Breakfast was fine, cooked food was good. Although there was no non dairy alternative for milk and their was only cereal as the "continental" option.
An acceptable stay but rooms need attention.

Comfortable, clean but too much noise!!
On a positive note the room was spacious, clean and the bed comfortable.
we had an evening meal which was very good and the waitress was very friendly and helpful.
The down side was the location of the room, directly over the bar so you could hear all the noise from the bar until late and quite early in the morning when staff came in. The heating/ hot water was powered by an electric tank in a cupboard in the corner of the room which also proved to be noisy ☹️ although when it fired up it did drown out some of the bar noise!
