The unassuming Liljeholmens Stadshotell was the perfect base for our three-week visit to Sweden. We chose it because of its proximity to the home of a friend we were visiting, who in turn selected his home because of the ease of access to a number of amenities such as the Metro subway and a multi-level shopping mall with large grocery stores. We stayed for a total of 11 non-consecutive nights in three different rooms of this hotel, all of which proved to be completely satisfactory. This unusual hotel is formed from part of the 2nd floor of a large building. To check-in one needs to buzz reception from the gated entrance and take the elevator up to the 2nd floor. Most of the rooms are along a single corridor, one side overlooking a quiet residential street lined with large apartment buildings, the other side over-looking a small park with a fountain. A few rooms are on a short hall perpendicular to the main one and enjoy a panoramic view of Stockholm. We found the staff of this small hotel to be kind and helpful. Other reviewers have complained about the hotel being situated at the top of a hill. If you have heavy luggage, do inquire at the Liljeholmens Metro stop about the location of the unique free automatic funicular that takes one from the station to the top of the hill directly across from the hotel entrance. The rooms have large windows which open and also have black-out curtains. The furnishings are functional and the beds are very comfortable. Refrigerated minibars are not stocked, but are handy for keeping personal food and drink items. The rooms also are equipped with large screen TVs. The bathrooms are clean and modern and have excellent ventilation. There is an additional charge for breakfast. One should request breakfast in advance or else it might not be completely stocked. Although a variety of cheeses and cold cuts along with high quality breads and crackers were provided, I was more interested in the nice variety of fresh fruits and granola and was delighted that oat milk was offered in addition to the other milk and yoghurt products. My wife was pleased by the pastry selections and the availability of hard-boiled eggs. Very near the hotel is a small lake with a mile-long pedestrian path around its perimeter. It is popular with joggers, and I enjoyed taking a morning stroll around it to do some bird watching before heading out for the day’s activities.

The staff are very friendly, the room was clean and the location was excellent for our stay.
