Scandic Sjöfartshotellet

Centrally located with easy access to attractions and amenities, the accommodation impresses with its professional, friendly staff and highly praised breakfast. However, no specific disadvantages were mentioned in the reviews.

Room untidy and very small, no AC. Service nice, breakfast was standard Scandic quality ie. good.

This was a three night stay arranged following a cruise round the Baltic. The weather was against us as it was so hot and yes….there is no air conditioning at all! So we had three fans going at all times. Whilst the room was clean when we arrived, we requested no housekeeping during our stay, so cannot comment on that. When we arrived at the hotel, we were not expecting to check in and were told we may not get the room until 4 pm. The only place we could sit were on two settees in the foyer. My husband asked if we could sit anywhere else as it was so busy with people checking in and out as well as being exceptionally hot but was told there was no where else. My husband went to the toilet after being given a code to enter. ( the toilet being in the restaurant) When he returned he was deeply concerned that one of the toilets was left in an extremely bad state, there were towels strewn all over the floor, the toilet roll was on the floor, there was blood and other matter on the seat. There was a large amount of toilet paper actually in the bowl, heavily stained. There was no hand sanitiser or soap available either. He then found another clean toilet which actually had soap. We found dirty tissues on the floor by the settees which were ignored by staff. The elevators also were extremely grubby What I am also really concerned about is the level of hygiene in the breakfast restaurant. I feel it was non existent. The tables were “ cleaned” by a girl using the same cloth for each table but without any bacterial or disinfectant spray. So essentially she was passing the germs from one table to another. The serving tongs for each part of the buffet were placed directly on the food so people picking them up and putting them back on the good were again, passing on their germs to everyone else. Serving tongs should be placed on a plate to the side of the food it is for. Everywhere in the buffet area was grubby, tables not cleared quickly so guests were left looking for somewhere clean to sit Hotel staff seem to have a lack of understanding of basic hygiene and cleanliness. We will be avoiding Scandic hotels from now on
