My daughter and I stayed here in April and we had a very warm welcome at reception, there are lovely spacious clean rooms and we are really happy with our stay there. We ate at the restaurant which was great, enjoyed a drink in the pub and we would go back again :)

Great value and centrally located. Easy walk from railway station (you can walk via Thistle Mall if weather is awful…enter near bus station and exit out of Boots). This is a hotel that has history so wonderful ambience and although single room I was in was a bit dated, still totally comfortable and has all you need. Wifi can be an issue but I was not there for wifi. Having a hot bath was awesome, however I struggled with getting a hot shower the following morning. Restaurant / bar is fantastic and breakfast options adequate. Buffet style cooked breakfast options available and expect dining to be busy. Overall centrally located and warm, welcoming staff. Would definitely stay again.

Room clean but dated. No air conditioning consequently room very warm. Leaking radiator in bathroom. Once window opened couldn’t close. Yes hairdryer available - collect at reception small very old. ( like back in the day ) Yes non slip mat for bath -collect at reception. Wi Fi yes - Not in the bedroom Ironing board Yes. - Ripped cover disgusting. Breakfast - Need to go early to get full range replenishment slow. ( gave up in the end) As the service came to the end food cold. The hot water under turines became cold. No safe available in the room. You have to request your room to be serviced although new towels available yes you guessed - collect from reception.

We had a mixed but overall positive stay at the Golden Lion. The receptionist was incredibly helpful and accommodating—her warm and professional manner made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. While parts of the hotel do feel a bit tired and could benefit from some updating, we were pleasantly surprised by our room, which was fantastic—spacious, clean, and very comfortable. With a bit of investment in the communal areas, this hotel could really shine. Big thanks again to the receptionist for making our stay that much better!

Absolutely disgusting and dated hotel room, 3 stars is generous. I have never stayed in a hotel so dire in all my life, would avoid at all costs although it’s a shame as the reception area and bar looks beautiful, clearly where they spent there money. Asked at the reception for a different room but fully booked… not even an offer of money back or a free drink in the bar. Terrible service, you would get way more for your money in a travelodge. Stayed in a beautiful hotel in Glasgow for the same amount of money last night which also included breakfast and a bottle of prosecco…

Went in for a few drinks in the afternoon. Only went to the bar, not the restaurant. The staff were lovely, the drinks were good and it was a nice warm place to sit and have a few drinks. If i was in sterling, I would go again and have a nice meal there.
