For a hostel, the Newcastle Beach YHA is a great value for money. Location is perfect, 5 minute walk to the beach, right off the light rail from the train station and overall quiet (minus weekends). The vintage home has great curb appeal and is in overall good condition inside. The stained glass windows, deep couches and foyer/staircase are very comfortable to relax in. Kitchen is a little tired but overall in good condition and well stocked. Laundry worked well too and powder is available for sale. The bedrooms can get really warm and stuffy, even with the window open. And with no air con, summer would be hot here. Good storage with outlets in the rooms but the bed squeak and move around a lot of both bunks are filled. WiFi works well in the common space too. And the hostel has activities during the week, like a free sausage sizzle, which was fun. My only quibble was how well the WHV kids living there cleaned the place. Watching a few of them while eating or cooking, it seemed like a quick touch and go job. Kitchen doesn’t seem to be cleaned out regularly as I could smell rotting food regularly in the fridge. Would recommend it and would stay again, but if you want quieter atmosphere, don’t go on weekends.

If I could give a rating of zero I would! I've stayed in budget accommodation before but this was more like a dirty jail cell. Dirty hallways, the floor in our room felt like it hadn't been vacuumed or mopped for weeks. Tiny moulded plastic shower room that looked like it had been ripped straight out of an old caravan (you couldn't even call it a bathroom!) with a toilet and shower with no shower curtain so water went everywhere as soon as the shower was turned on! The sink to wash your hands was on the other side of the room. The pillows were yellow and brown under the pillowcases so we used our own beach towels as pillows. Our little boy had to sleep in our bed as there was a suspect looking brown stain on the sheets on the bunk above our bed. Oh and to top it off, there were no bath towels as they had 'ran out'! Needless to say we were up super early after our 1 night stay to get out of there. The poor girl on reception the night of our stay looked like she was ready to burst into tears after dealing with several irate holiday makers when I went to ask about the towel situation. Definitely won't be staying here again and will be telling others not to either.

The proprietress is also Chinese, but our car does not have a permit, can not drive away, thinking about going to the graduation ceremony that day, immediately after the end, go back and finish the card and drive away, but the boss’s call is to let us drive away, say Today, the room is full, and our graduation ceremony is about to begin. If we don’t go back, we will call the police and drag the car away. We rushed back to park the road. At the end of the graduation ceremony, when she returned to drive, she stopped a car in her yard. Although the boss wife is helping us, it is also a duty to help us. But I think that since everyone from abroad is from a country, I should be able to help you. I still can’t forget the graduation ceremony and my family’s urgency. The mood at the time. Later, we moved the car to a ghost house. The hostess of his family asked us what happened. I took the initiative to help us look at the car and let us safely park the car at his door. It’s not like how to spray this hotel, and I will still give praise. I just want to tell everyone who is overseas, if the Chinese can help, I will help you. As long as the people are united, no one can bully the Chinese.

This small, main road motel is perfectly located on the lake with magnificent views. The rooms are comfortable, clean & freshly painted, including a fridge and microwave. The host was welcoming and nothing beats the sunset view on the lawn. A great place for the price. I would stay again as the lake view rooms dont seem to have too much traffic noise and hopefully when the renovated restaurant re-opens there is little need to venture any further.

The room is very large, and there is a large jacuzzi, you can check in by yourself, but I don’t have a driver license, and there was a problem with the verification point. I arrived late. I called the hotel at night and the staff sent a code. . No toothpaste, toothbrush cups, no slippers, you need to bring your own, everything else is good, living near Jesmond shopping center is relatively convenient

Awesome price for what you get. The manager there is absolutely great. Only downside is it’s small drive away from Newcastle but that’s offset by the great price.

Very Good
JJunjieNorthern Star Accommodation exceeded all expectations! The rooms were impeccably clean, well-appointed, and comfortable, offering a perfect blend of modern amenities and a cozy atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. The location was ideal, providing easy access to local attractions while still feeling peaceful and private. I highly recommend Northern Star for an exceptional and hassle-free experience!
Well what a surprise. My wife and I have been in the motel industry for years and cringe when we have to stay at a motel. But this place is how we would like it. Clean . organised and value for money. We had a great nights sleep even though it was a weekend. Quiet place which atracts good clientel. Good on you guys. We will beback.
GGuest UserWe had difficulty finding the building. The area isn't exactly the most enticing of places and didn't give us a feeling of 'being safe'. On the opposite corner is a rather dingy pub. We were told our car was too high for the 'stacking' carpark but that there was plenty of street parking close by. However, they didn't warn us that it would be difficult to find a space to park and we went round the block a few times before we found one!! Not helpful when you need to take luggage, etc, up to the unit. Not impressed with that. Fortunately, there is a lift. There is no reception desk. All communication is done by email or SMS. Entry to the building and room is by a code issued prior to the check-in time. The unit itself was quite modern and the big positive for us was the bed being the best we had on our three one night stopovers.
Vvdn-andyThe hotel's location was great for exploring Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the Central Coast. It has a bar restaurant with good food and beer and great services. The only downside was it was undergoing renovations causing a little bit of inconvenience, but this is a good thing for the future anyway ;)
Excellent value for a very clean and comfortable accommodation with great Managers. Everything in the room that you need - Hair dryer, shampoos, conditioners, microwave, bar fridge, kettle, plates and cutlery. Toaster available from Reception. Have stayed a few times and will always return.
NnobodyguyFair price, good location (5 minutes away by car from the city center with shopping center and restaurants), clean rooms with all you need: towels, soap, good bed, tv, fridge, kettle, coffee and tea with some biscuits, quiet at night (however can be noisy if you have noisy neighbours, but not because of the traffic), good shower. Nothing to complain about. Definitely recommend that place if you need a place for a night or too on the road! Bonus: there is a pub with very cheap prices too!
GGuest UserWent for Melbourne cup and while menu wasn’t as advertised I couldn’t fault menu or service. Service was 5 star. Food was awesome! I can’t stop talking about the friendly service though. Service wins every time for me. Would 100% go again without fail.
