Reopened in February 2023! A hidden hot spring inn quietly nestled in the famous Kusatsu hot springs
Fflower_ chick2025.01.24
This was my first time going to Kusatsu Onsen. I had originally booked a different inn, but I changed to this one at the last minute because the reviews on other websites were very good, and breakfast was included and it was a little cheaper.
After staying here, I definitely want to stay here again next time! The following is a long story, but I hope it was helpful.
- About a 7-minute walk from the Yubatake.
The inn is uphill from the Yubatake, but for someone in their early 30s, it wasn't too hard.
Older people might get a little out of breath.
- The inn only has stairs. The rooms only have a toilet, no bathroom.
There are two private baths, and if they are available, you can bathe until 9am.
Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body soap,
toothbrush, razor, hair band, samue, tabi socks,
bath towel, face towel
(no face wash or makeup remover)
If you are planning to go to a day trip to the hot springs,
it is recommended to bring a face towel from the inn
(be careful not to forget to take it home!)
The breakfast was so delicious and plentiful that it didn't seem like a light breakfast.
It was filling.
The building is like an old house, but it was meticulously cleaned
I was impressed.
There are few rooms and it is small, so I think it is recommended for those who want to stay with a small number of people.
There are few reviews on this site, but there are many on a certain map, so I decided to stay there.
Above all, the staff were very considerate, and I was very happy to be able to spend a quiet time even though it was close to the Yubatake.
Just a one-minute walk from Yubatake, the main spring water source located in the heart of the hot spring town. All rooms come with open-air baths for a relaxing stay.

The hotel owner was sincere and polite. Although he didn't understand English, he was very attentive and used a translator to explain and communicate with us. The breakfast provided by the hotel is good. It is a traditional Japanese breakfast. It is comfortable to eat in the restaurant with Japanese benches. The location is good, just a minute or two away from Kusatsu Onsen.

Hotel a little outside the centre, 400 m. but in peace, very helpful staff, typically Japanese breakfast and even original, double room spacious, onsen available attention water comes directly from the source 50°C.
The only hotel in Kusatsu where you can overlook a hot water field Yubatake from the open-air bath. A free-flow natural hot spring from a well-known hot spring source "Shirahata no yu".

The location is perfect, right on the main square. But this ryokan doesn’t ready for foreign travelers, even Signboard only in Japanese. Workers doesn’t speak English also. And there is no kayseki dinner. In the room you’ll have matcha tea and beautiful tableware, traditional clothes. For breakfast you should choose time 7:30 or 8:30 and it’s so big (2 photo), but for me was very salty. There is two onsen - outside and inside on different floors.
30 seconds to Yubatake hot spring field. Fully enjoy reserved hot spring bath in a Japanese style room and meal served on a fireplace!

This was my first and only stay at a ryokan so I don’t have much to compare it to. I chose this lodging because of the cats and good reviews on the food. The cats were really sweet and I enjoyed playing with them. I have 2 cats of my own so it was really nice. The food was so beautiful and delicious - the mushroom soup at dinner was amazing. I really enjoyed it. The private bath rooms were very convenient and open 24 hrs. I thought the facilities were clean and very pleasant. The location was very close to the central area and a quick walk to all the important sites including the bus station. The only comment I have was in the morning someone was smoking and the smell got ****** into the 2nd floor hallway so maybe more care should be taken to be sure the smoke stays outside. The host was so nice and sweet and I used google translate to ask questions. The matcha madeleines are so tasty I bought a box to take with me.
Within a 2-minute walk to Kusatsu Onsen Station and Yubatake, an inn has baths with hot spring water from Yubatake.

For more than 10 days in Japan, this is the perfect accommodation.
First of all, the location is super close to the bus terminal, and it is super convenient to move luggage.
It was also very fast to Tangyu. The hotel was clean and tidy. The boss and his wife were kind and friendly. It was more than 11 o'clock that day. Put down your luggage to go sightseeing until 3 o'clock. There are delicious welcome desserts and drinks. There are many choices for bathrobes. Super beautiful, you can wear it out for sightseeing and taking pictures, the room is also very large and tidy, The room does not have a bathroom, but there are four private styles on the lower floor that are open 24 hours a day. Super surprise 👍🏿 and breakfast is very rich. Everything is delicious. The honey melon is super sweet. When I left, the proprietress also sent me a beautiful bag and took pictures together. This is a perfect journey! I highly recommend this hotel!

I know that Trip.com clearly paid tax, but when I check in, I ask for tax payment in cash. So I paid again when I checked in, is this correct?

GGuest UserAmazing place to stay. I could not recommend it enough!
XXIANGA very old hot spring hotel is also the cheapest one in the area. At this price, it was in line with expectations. It arrived a half hour earlier, and it also smoothly let CI. Just like a small Japanese-style hostel, the clerks do not speak English, and they communicate with me in Japanese with no more than 10 sentences. The room is older, but there is everything there, and the bathrobes are beautiful. The hot springs are all public, there is no private soup, and the toilets are also public. There is a squat pit and a toilet. The toilets have to line up that morning. The sense of form at dinner is still in line with the routine of Japanese hot spring hotels. The dishes are ok, and the breakfast is a bit disappointing. It is all carbon water, and the hot spring eggs are not. The geographical location is an extra point. This town has many mountain roads. His home is a 1-minute walk from the bus station, and it will not be very tired to go up and down, let alone ask the hotel to drive to pick it up.
According to these circumstances, it is okay to give 4 points, but I don't recommend everyone to live, because this house has hidden charges, and in winter it will charge 500 warm house fee and 150 hot spring water tax. There is no mention on the booking page. If the hot spring tax is not unfamiliar to people who frequent Japan, what is called the warm house fee is very strange. Communicate with the store. They showed me their official website, which means that there is a statement. I said that I didn't set it on the official website. I have no way of knowing it. I prefer to believe that the owner ’s idea is pure and not intentional, but doing business is very frustrating. No wonder it takes up such a good position and does not renovate. Similar hotels that have been renovated next door can sell twice as much. Of course, the result of the matter itself is still good. This hidden charge problem was later subsidized to me by Ctrip. I praised Ctrip customer service and dealt with it in a particularly efficient and professional manner. The reasons for not recommending are: 1. Difficulty in communication. I went to the next few places and visited. Although the English is not fluent, it is obviously much better. There are local characteristics (I changed to the hotel the next day); 3. In addition to the so-called warm house fee, his family's original price advantage of only three or fifty rmb will no longer exist, and you can choose the same price slightly more expensive, Choose the few hotels, the single room price is also in this grade, but the conditions are much better, anyway, this one also experiences impenetrable Japanese feeling, if you really want to experience Japanese feeling, you can choose a hotel above 1500rmb.
SShuidioThis B&B is called ”Goroji” in Japanese. I was misled by the transliterated pattern, and it took me a while to find it. The room is clean. Picture 3 shows its own bathhouse and shared bathroom facilities. Not bad😁
Nnavi.wIn terms of transport:
The hotel is not close to Kusatsu Yutian. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the Kusatsu Hot Spring Bus Terminal to the hotel. I don't think it is far away. But it is actually going uphill and then downhill before going uphill to the hotel. It is recommended that other guests go to the hotel to take a taxi to the hotel, do not trust google map.
Hotels:
The hotel has 3 floors and feels like a relatively large homestay. It should be noted that the hotel does not have a lift, and large luggage friends should pay attention. The hotel staff can communicate in simple English. I checked in the same day as a male owner. He helped carry the luggage upstairs, but he had to move it himself when he checked out. I have one berth and two meals, dinner and breakfast are delicious, rich and delicious. Breakfast can be selected for foreign food or Japanese food. Dinner does not include dinner wine and you have to add extra money. But there was a little episode at dinner, I didn’t even respond to the order of wine twice, and then I had to order the Kusatsu beer with the female owner when I was serving, but I didn’t serve it until I finished the meal, and I left and asked the hostess. She asked the elderly female employee to answer me that the genius has goods, you can take them back tomorrow! Super dumbfounded at the time! If there is no goods, you can tell me that you can cancel, but don't help the guests decide without authorization. Then I told the elderly employee to cancel. I don't know if they will cancel, I thought it was no difference, and I could bring it back to make a handwritten letter the next day! I don't know if I haven't received the wine when I check out. Not only did I not cancel it, but I also charged me more for the price of my drink. I explained the situation with the male shopkeeper in Japanese, and of course there is a refund. But the overall feeling is not very good, the female owner's service is not good, resulting in overcharge of the customer.
The price is high, but the service is really improving.
Will not consider staying again, anyway, their target guests are locals. Would rather be better than more expensive hotels near Tangtian.
HHuichunIf you go to a ski resort, you can stay here. But to go to the Kusatsu hot spring attractions, it is recommended to have a car.
After paying the room fee, other items in the store must be paid for at your own expense. If there are other options, I will not choose here again.
