The Stanwick Hotel

I could not have picked a better place to hold a joint celebration of a twins' 60th birthday meal. The staff went above and beyond delivering a great service for such an important occasion. They catered for 32 guests with individual meals. The quality of the food was excellent. Some of the guests, plus myself and my wife, stayed in the hotel, and we found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. Along with the room was breakfast in the morning, which was also very good quality and again with great service. This has been planned for months, and it has been no problem, making amendments, such as meal changes, along the way. All in all, this hotel and its excellent staff worked so hard and made this special occasion so memorable. We will carry on using the restaurant in the immediate future, and if we have any special occasions, this venue will be 1st on our list.

We had a private celebration of a wedding with the bride and groom and the parents of both at the Stanwick Hotel on the 11th June. We had booked a table the week before and left table decorations which they put out on the day. We all though the food was very well cooked and presented - all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals! For all the food, drinks and coffees the bill was just under £300.00. Given the all round quality and level of service, I thought was very reasonable. All the staff were very attentive and efficient - thank you.

There are, perhaps, a few positive things to say about the Stanwick Hotel but these a far exceeded by negatives. Taking a Mock Tudor Theme for some of the rooms is at best unintentional irony. Given that most Tudor rooms would have been dingy, airless, charmless and lacking a comfortable bed the Hotel is to be congratulated on achieving such a degree of authenticity, at least with the room we spent a reluctant night in. True we could have had some fresh air but only by opening the French windows which led to a patch of, sadly neglected, vegetation which had public access. Equally the copy writer for the dinner menus is to be applauded for making the food sound interesting and appetising, an illusion only dispelled when the very average reality is put before you. The fact that the restaurant was full and included several large parties meant service was painfully slow, a problem that could no doubt be solved with better attention to kitchen and waiting staff ratios. Finally the Breakfast. Described on the Hotel’s web-site in hyperbolic terms as “spoiling you for choice” we only found off hand, unprofessional service and a dearth of fresh fruit. Perhaps those breakfasting early do enjoy all the promised choices, whereas, based on our experience, those arriving after 9.30 should brace themselves for disappointment. Croissants were nice though. The Hotel promises “a blend of luxury, warmth and unmatched hospitality” all laudable aspirations but, again based on our experience it only managed to achieve the last of these …but not in a good way.

A perfect stay - friendly welcoming staff, well equipped room with hugh fluffy towels and a comfortable bed. Amazing dinner menu at affordable prices, good breakfast selection. The hotel is updated, the grounds are immaculate. Decor in the dining area an bars is bright, modern and comfortable. Internet had a few hiccups, and desk in room was a little small but, aside from this we would return in a heartbeat.
