Melina's House

A pleasant home away from home Melina and her family are excellent hosts. The building is laid out as a set of self contained apartments with a shared lobby, with their home being off the lobby if you need to contact them. The apartment was kept clean throughout our stay with fresh towels, etc. every 2 days. The selection of cooking equipment was good, so self-catering was a practical option, and Melina provided some olive oil, marmalade and fruit as a gift upon arrival. You will need your own condiments, kitchen roll, etc. The nearest supermarket is priced for tourists but there’s a Lidl about 5km away. Speaking of location, you’re about 5 minutes walk from the beach down a quiet street, then across a busy road at a pedestrian crossing. Close enough you wouldn’t think twice about going there and back multiple times in a day or nipping back if you’ve forgotten something. One thing to be aware of is that the apartment we had had a shower over the bath and a very low ceiling - I’m 193cm and the shower head was about level with my shoulder. If you’re tall you’ll be used to this experience but it may be worth asking whether any of the apartments are better suited for tall people.

We had an apartment on the ground floor with two bedrooms, a living room and a balcony. The rooms are spacious and tidy. The balcony is also spacious. The house is in a quiet place, about 7 km from the city. The owners, Antonis and Melina, and the housekeeper, Irena, are very pleasant, accommodating and kind. Bed linen and towels are changed and the apartment is cleaned more often than usual on trips.

A quite place to relax. Good WiFi connection. We were in a studio with a bathroom and quite a big room as well as an small balcony with sea views. No noises from the streets during nights. Friendly hosts. Reasonable prices. Lack of a proper cover in the shower makes you to get all the floor around full of water. Noise from air conditioning machine was quite bothering. Location is quite good but the beach nearby is of medium-low quality. There are plenty of better beaches all around the Island.

Just returned from 11 days at Melina's and it was fabulous. The hosts are very welcoming, giving us drinks on the first night when arriving. They also invited us to sit with them the next night and have drinks and a snack. Very helpful too printing us off bus timetables. The apartment was lovely and clean with comfortable beds and a wonderful view of the sea. Stalos is a lovely resort with great beaches and restaurants. Well worth a stay here!

If you want to experience Cretan hospitality very near to a large and attractive beach with plenty of authentic tavernas nearby and also beautiful walks in the hills with olive groves and Mountain Views, this is the perfect place. Melina and Antonis are such kind and generous hosts who make you feel like old friends. The accommodation we stayed in was comfortable, in perfect condition, very clean and well organised with beautiful views of the sea from the balcony. There was everything we needed for our two week stay and they also lent us beach mat and sun umbrellas so we didn't have to buy them. They gave us helpful advice and answered all of our questions about the area patiently and always with a smile! We were delighted with our stay from every point of view and will be recommending it to friends and family. We also recommend our favourite Taverna, Katsarales which just happens to be the closest! We will be back!
