First time staying at the Moat House. We had an unexpected room upgrade (however this review certainly isn't based on the upgrade) and we ended up in the Pagent suite which is a beautiful room with patio doors that lead onto the side of the canal. All of the encountered were very friendly but also professional. We had our evening dinner in the restaurant and the food was fabulous. This hotel is a gem. We will definitely go back.

Food was awful and so was service. My mums 80th birthday meal ruined by awful food not worth the money and terribly overrated . Chautaebriand which wouldn't have fed one let alone two men . 6 chips each as you can see on the picture for two people. My mums food came out 10 minutes after everyone else's . We then got told that we couldn't change the food due to kitchens closing . It was 9.15. We spent a lot of money and it really wasn't worth it . There was no atmosphere and the manager just didn't do enough to help the situation. Would never recommend this place for a special occasion.

The staff are lovely, helpful, polite and attentive. Our room, although large had a large collection of spiders in it. The tea/coffee offerings are a bit dire, not to say sparse and cheap. There are no frills like robes, toiletries in the bathroom and the settee in the room gains a prize for discomfort. It a pretty setting which I think caters mostly for weddings. The gluten free offerings at breakfast are really not great, the bread is bog standard supermarket tasteless. The staff save the day.

Very frosty welcome by the receptionist who within three minutes of the process asked for a swipe of my card twice. No ‘how was your journey to us?’ and/or ‘what brings you to the Moat House today?’ No air con operating in the room which we were not forewarned about, no offer of changing rooms. Requested a bucket of ice which I had to remind reception of as it was taking an age to arrive. Called down to ask reception to order a taxi to be told ‘we wouldn’t get one at this time of night’ (18:30) They gave me a taxi companies number to call myself!! We got a taxi via Uber. On checking out, no ‘how was your stay?’ or ‘Where are you heading off to today?’ It’s not necessarily the young colleagues’ fault, particularly if they haven’t had the experience or training in customer service, but they most certainly need it, and this is a management/owner responsibility. At £140 per night, it’s not good value for money. We will not be returning.

We went for afternoon tea & thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. We were warmly welcomed & served very quickly. We had 1 traditional tea & 1 savoury tea & both were excellent. The food was delicious & beautifully presented & every item was tasty. We were offered extra sandwiches & my cafetiere contained 6 cups of very good coffee. Our waitress was very attentive & we felt very unrushed. We were given a box to take our last cake home. We were very pleased with every aspect of the meal in a delightful setting & plan to return.

We visited along with many members of our family to attend our granddaughters wedding and reception. The whole experience was first class. Rooms were excellent and reasonably priced. The wedding co-ordinator was brilliant and the food and atmosphere at the reception cannot be faulted. Also the breakfast was great as well on both mornings.

Decided to come here for our 32nd wedding anniversary treat upon friend’s recommendations. We opted for the more relaxed lounge bar lunch time menu. Setting was superb, service was second to none, all the staff were lovely. Starters great, my main course (ribeye) lived up to all expectations. Sadly my wife’s king prawn linguine didn’t. Whilst it tasted absolutely to die for, finding only two prawns in the dish was underwhelming. Having mentioned this to our server, she apologised and asked if she could ask the chef to quickly add some more. Within minutes a platter of TWO more prawns came back (and the centres were still grey…our cat loved them!). £22 for a bowl of pasta! Are the prawn dishes based on a quantity of FOUR prawns???🤷🏻‍♂️. The sweet course was equally as bad but I think I’ve said enough. Very disappointed after having such wonderful recommendations. Shame really.

Just had 3 nights here, the hotel is set in a lovely spot next to the canal. Our room was quiet even though there was a wedding on each night. Comfortable large bed, great shower. The staff were friendly and helpful, Great breakfast included with plenty of choice. Plenty of parking space.
