Hotels near Balluta square, St Julian's

I will start by saying what a great hotel, a great location and the rooftop pool is a great little area. But the hotel staff are useless, We had paid for our trip in advance and paid for breakfast and upgraded to a room with a balcony and a view. I will note that we had 2 bookings 1 for the first night and a booking for the 3 following nights as we changed our travel plans due to flight costs and had a extra day.on arrival at 4pm ( check in is 3pm, we were told our room wasnt ready and we needed to pay, i told tge guy we had paid and had to get proof that i had, we were also told we hadnt booked breakfast or paid the upgrade again i had to find the proof, eventually all was sorted and we finally got into our room Next day we went down for breakfast and were refused entry as we ”hadnt paid” again we had to wait whilst it was checked, to then be allowed in. Later on that day we recieved a call to the room asking if the room was ok and do we need anything, we asked for a littpe milk for tea and within minutes it arrived, 10 minutes later the phone rang again and it was reception saying that we hadnt paid and if we dont go down straight away and pay it we have to leave. Again i had to go down and sort it.. finally all sorted... till departure, we werevthen told we hadnt paid the city tax, and even tho a trainee receotion lad said to the lady he was there when we paid it, she said if its not on the system we pay.. its only a few euros but its incompetence. The room itself is nice, spacious and comfy beds with a fantastic shower. The roof top pool is a great sun trap too.. Breakfast was nice, and lots of choice with real orange juice A good stay but ruined a bit by staff not doing there jobs

Returned 2 weeks ago after a wonderful week saying at The Palace Hotel. It took a long time to decide where to stay in Malta given the enormous choice and yet very mixed reviews, however I was really pleased we settled on The Palace. I did 1 less star for 'value', but this wasn't just in relation to The Palace as I thought generally hotel's in Malta were definitely on the pricier side. The room was lovely with the biggest bed I’ve ever seen and we had some lovely touches such as a daily visit from hospitality asking if we needed anything, and a bottle of filtered water changed daily. An excellent idea and far better than the frequent plastic bottles and subsequent waste. We also arrived on my husband’s birthday and quite unexpectedly in the evening, a lovely birthday cake was delivered to our room! From our initial greeting at reception with a lovely local drink and onwards, we had a brilliant service from every single member of staff. They were all very helpful and yet not intrusive. In particular lovely Puja in the wonderful TemptAsian’ restaurant, and Dhilip who served us both by the pool and at the ground floor Talk of the Town restaurant. Both were extremely knowledgeable and gave sound advice regarding choice of meals and suitable local wines. As we like to try local restaurants when we go away, we chose the bed and breakfast option however we were so impressed with the lovely rooftop TemptAsian restaurant we ate there twice. We then went for the buffet in the Talk of the Town restaurant on our last night, where we again had an excellent service from Dhilip, and where the food was well presented and excellent value for money. Sliema is a busy place with lots of hotels, and as other reviewers have stated, The Palace was within the centre of the peninsula, so although it wasn’t in the most picturesque road, given its proximity to all public transport, the ferry and bus stops including the ‘hop on/off’, we felt there was no necessity to hire a car. We did the short ferry over to Valletta many times and a bonus for us was a considerable ‘over 60’ concession. We managed to cram a lot in during our week in Malta from the numerous museums, tombs, caves and other historical places, in addition to exploration of the island on both the north and south hop on/off buses and brief trip to Gozo. I’m not sure we could not have done quite so much had we not been in such an ideal location. The other bonus was on the days we were back in time, having a swim in the gorgeous rooftop pool, and the Happy hour cocktails between 3 and 5 pm. Highly recommend this as a wonderful place to stay in Malta.

We stayed here for a last minute break away for our anniversary. When we got dropped off the location was in a busy street late at night on a Saturday. When we arrived at the hotel we were expected being the last arrival of the day. Check in was very efficient and the reception doubled up as a bar. The room was very spacious and very clean, with a nice big double bed, ac, TV, safe, kettle, fridge and storage. The balcony was street facing which was small but enough for 2 and ideal for the hubby who smokes. The bathroom was again very spacious and very clean we had a nice walk in shower and the water pressure was also very good. We realised in the morning we were in the midst of a town with lots of construction but the noise could not be heard if the windows were shut. Due to this the AC was needed which is the only thing I can fault. Due to this being controlled by a panel on the wall by the entrance but no remote was available to control therefore had a disturbed sleep to change temp or switch on or off.

The location is very good, near the beach, surrounded by bars/restaurants and close to the bus stop. It was clean in the rooms however and the breakfast was nice. The service was a little lacking and they checked us in a bit late.

Good establishment. Service up to 3 stars. Unfortunately the soundproofing of the rooms is poor. We were really disturbed by other guests. We were bothered on several occasions by the smell of cigarettes.

Starting with the information - we stayed at So City as a young couple (who arent particularly into nightclubs/bars) to see Matla for the first time over a week. I have given this a 'benefit-of-the-doubt' rating due to the hotel being incredibly new. We picked So City Hotel because of the value, it was incredibly well priced. I'd imagine this is a strategy due to it being so new but it was certainly well worth the price we paid. On to the hotel as a whole - I feel this is definitely aimed toward capturing people coming to Malta for some night life. Its positioned so that no more than 10 seconds from leaving the lobby, you can be in a bar, and their are some nice bars surrounding. That said, we werent there for that - but this location also meant that finding an evening meal, or a quick early night drink was incredibly easy. Exploring the island was also very easy from here, Valletta was a very short journey, and as we had opted to rent a car, there was a carpark about 5 minutes walk away (Pengardens) which is reasonably priced for over night parking, and we never struggled for a space. The room was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect and bedding very soft and comfortable. Our upgraded room was also incredibly spacious. The theming is a nice touch and makes the room a bit more characterful and individual. Staying on the 7th floor, there was minimal noise at night, altough id be concerned if we needed to keep the window open.... The black out curtains were also amazing for keep the room dark for a little bit of extra sleep. Constructive criticism for the room would be: The shower tempurture is difficult - the hottest setting is insanely hot (my other half loves hot showers but this was too much for her also) and it wouldnt go cold, just cooler, it also seemed to get colder through out the shower and you found yourself adjusting. There is not a lot of storage at all for longer stays. This is perhaps a by product of it feeling aimed towards 'nightlifers' who might stop 3 nights or so. I would perhaps ask reception for additional hangers if you have plenty of clothes for a longer stay. The mini fridge, altough useful, is not big enough to put larger water bottles in, which can be annoying. The aircon unit is situated in a place which means it blows directly at the bed. I tried to play with the control but there was no way to adjust it that I could find. Im trying to cool the room, not refridgerate myself. The timer on the aircon also didnt seem to work, so setting it the blow for 30 mins whilst i went to sleep just didnt seem to work. The TV is not a full smartTV which is a shame. Just channels and an internet browser, which are never nice to navigate around.... On to other notes: Breakfast is just what you need. Its not an all out buffett where there is everything you could dream of, but there is more than enough and a few items cycle so you can expect a slightly different breakfast each morning. The hotel is located in a still a bit to be developed street, but the proximity to the beach and the shopping center pays this handicap more than off. The rooms facing the street have nice balconies. The rooms are new (05/2023), equipped with refrigerator, Nespresso-machine and a perfect accessible bathroom. The indoor and rooftop pool offer all you need, no matter if rain or sun. The AC Lounge and Restaurant Team is doing a wonderful job. No matter if for breakfast with freshly brewed Lavazza, for a drink at the rooftop pool or for a delicious dinner on the roof-top bar. Excellent property with great location, extremely clean and comfortable, super friendly staff. Teo was extraordinary! He was a true example of excellent hospitality. He made our trip more exciting in Malta by guiding and giving us tips about the city and the attractions to cover in 72 hours. He made sure that everything was arranged for us accordingly. I couldn't thank him enough for the excellent level of service he had rendered. We will surely visit H Hotel on our next holiday and expect that will recommend your hotel to our family and friends.

What an excellent hotel. Here with 30 sixth form students on a cultural visit. The hotel has been absolutely brilliant, rooms cleaned every day and nothing too much trouble. Thanks to Saviour, Mario and the team, your breakfasts have been delicious. Your advice and guidance regarding trips and places to visit has been brilliant. We will be back next year 😊.

A very modern studio type apartment equipped with all amenities including a washer-dryer. Very clean and spacious. There is a restaurant with delicious food. The host is very friendly.
