Ocean Gate Resort

Old and not maintained (spiderwebs all over the lawns in between the various buildings; our room came ‘equipped’ with a leftover flosser and socks on the floor from the previous occupants, sink was clogged, ancient air conditioning unit). They did say they have a pool, access to kayaks, paddleboards and whatnot, we only stayed one night and it rained so we didn’t use any of it. By the water so a bit of a view. Will do the job in a pinch (given that there are only 2 hotels in Southport, not a lot of options to choose from; would definitely recommend Newagen over this one or choose something in Boothbay).

We were here for two nights, June 18th and 19th, 2025 arriving around 5 pm. Our king water view room was clean; however, the bathroom toilet bowl had a thick mineral deposit around it. That was the least of our problems. My wife needed to wash her hair soon after we got there so we could attend an event the next day. There was no hot water the entire night. Not even warm. And to top it off the room phone to connect to the office was not working at all which meant that every time we wanted to let them know there was no hot water then or YET that I had to walk to the office many many times to get a response. I also walked down to the dock to check things out and slipped and fell on my back on their wooden ramp as the moss on top of it hadn’t been removed at all which was another trip to the office. All in all, the entire resort was not a resort and had gone to decay. Why the website photos are posted is beyond me as nothing was as shown. Long grass was recently mowed but not raked up, the stated fire pit which was a small metal camping grill size was old, with one chair and no wood at all. The pool’s hours were hit or miss, the hot tub is no longer there, thick pine needles were on walkways, and the place needs painting, renovation, bigger staff, etc. and much needed to be done before their first day opening this year. The best part was the breakfast. You received a real fork but plastic knife and spoon, etc., however, the food was good, especially the blueberry pancakes and bacon. There was a decent variety of items. All in all, it was reassuring to hear that other guests all felt the same way as to what it was and the fallacy of what is shown on their website. It’s got possibilities but not for quite awhile!

The property is older but they are in the middle of updating it. Area is beautiful and right on the water
