The Oxenham Arms is a gem. Perfect location for exploring Dartmoor, a beautiful and historic building and incredible food to top it off. We stayed in the Bovey room which has a menhir behind the wardrobe (or summat). I can’t tell you if that made a difference to our stay but the room is clean and pretty and it felt like we were in olden times. Other than all be amenities, of course, which are spot on. The staff are all fun and we had good laughs and told stories. The food, as mentioned, is incredible. We’ve eaten here a number of times before and it’s even more special to be able to eat, drink and haul ourselves up the few steps to bed rather than having to leave at the end of the meal. It’s been a little while since we visited so we’re heading back soon.

What an amazing find! Moving to the area soon, and my cousin & family took us here for Sunday lunch. First impressions were what a beautiful old building with so much history, and such a warm feel when you walk in. The owners & staff are so welcoming, friendly and provide a top service. Gorgeous garden out the back with an old plane in the garden next to it. Stunning views too! The food was amazing & absolutely delicious, hats off to the chef & kitchen staff. Everyone else had a roast, including a nut roast, which they said was fab. I'm Coeliac, so opted for the ploughman's as never get a chance to have one with Gluten-free bread. I think the bread was made in-house, and to be honest, I've never tasted GF bread like it, absolutely delicious & you certainly wouldn't know it was gluten-free. My adult daughter eats her dessert with a small spoon, as she can't stand a big dessert spoon. The lovely owner brought out a tray with a choice of 3 small sized spoons for her, what service, and with a smile! 5 stars from us all round, can't fault at all. Will definitely be a regular for us after we've moved locally in August. Thank you so much for a wonderful family lunch and excellent hospitality. *****

Shop bought pie. Chewy steak. Meant to be AA rosette. Lady behind bar (owner) never asked for food opinion, not surprised as she knew it was awful. Beautiful old pub but food not worth ordering.

This hotel is remarkable. Starting life many thousands of years ago as a menhir, it was the site of a Benedictine monastery before becoming an inn in the 1400s. It oozes history and while you eat and drink there, you follow in the footsteps of Drake, Nelson, Dickens and David Bowie. Service and food were top notch. Our room with a huge bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. Apparently, it was originally a monk’s cell, but it has been somewhat updated. There is a lovely garden with fine views of the countryside. Very sad to move on. The menhir is still there, built into the fabric of the building. And our room sat on top of it.

This great pub offered a superb meal for everyone. The food was high-quality and delicious. The service was attentive, friendly and warm. The venue is old and fascinating. There was a good selection of larger and beers and beers on the pump. This is the best meal I have had this year. We all Highly recommend it.

We are fortunate enough to live within walking distance of this hotel, restaurant and pub. We have just returned from yet another meal and, as always, the staff, the food, the drink and the welcome was superb. The cheese souffle draws us back repeatedly! The village is lovely, with plenty of walking from the hotel including up to Dartmoor itself or simply sit in the lovely garden with a drink.

Well what can I say. We have never had a meal as good as we have had here. We’ve been to restaurants where a main has cost over £200. And I can honestly say that I’ve never experienced service or food as good as we have had here. The beef shorten was a different experience , sausage and mash and chicken curry was also delicious. The staff, venue and ambience is second to none. Definitely worth a visit. And thank you to all the staff for being absolutely incredible.
