The hotel room is very small, unlike domestic hotels, and the price/performance ratio is very poor. The two white female front desk staff are racist. The room seems to be monitored. As long as a third person appears in the room during the day, we will soon be called to ask us to ask the third person to exit. Room!

It's just a better B&B, but to be honest I can't appreciate it.
There is one room in one building, and the restaurant is downstairs.

It's a Relais & Châteaux hotel, but this was the only room available when I made the reservation. I didn't expect it to be so small. If you can afford it, book a larger one. It's comfortable to stay in and there's a Michelin restaurant downstairs.

Spent our recent anniversary celebrating with two nights here at the beautiful Gilpin, we ate at Spice on night one and Source on night two. We were very grateful to have been upgraded to a junior suite with a hot tub! Our room was Grasmere and it was lovely, the hot tub worked very well and was a great addition to the well appointed room. The toiletries were fantastic, as was the bed, general cleanliness throughout and little extras like coffee machine, water, slippers, gown, biscuits. The staff were excellent and the food was delicious in both restaurants and at breakfast. Thank you for a wonderful stay 😀❤️.

Not worth the money unfortunately. The room was tired and in need of redecorating to be able to provide the wow factor. Hot tub did work properly. For the price you expect better attention to detail from the staff and this was lacking.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely friendly lady ( apologies didn’t get your name ) immediately felt at home. She noted we had requested an earlier check in if it was at all possible and indeed we could. My daughter booked a twin room but the hotel upgraded us to a junior suite with a hot tub which was just lovely ! I cannot explain the atmosphere at this hotel only to say that you feel you are just staying with a group of lovely friendly people in a beautiful house ! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff who always seemed to have time to have a little chat. We had our evening meal in The Spice Restaurant which was delicious. Our breakfast was just lovely, all beautifully cooked and presented. My daughter had the locally sourced salmon with scrambled eggs which apparently was “the best thing she had eaten this year “! My ‘Posh Rarebit and poached eggs were equally delicious. It was a wonderful stay all be it just one night … will definitely return for longer hopefully. 🙂

Hard to put into words. I booked this stay as a gift for me and my mum after a turbulent 2024. I wanted to come away and feel relaxed and switched off - and that we did and more. Staying in 5* often is greeted with sterilised staff with slightly “pompous “ attitude but it was far from that. This hotel embodies the Lakes mixed with the sheer beauty of friendly, attentive and professional staff. The hotel was absolutely stunning. We were gifted an upgrade with a hot tub which was sensational. All in all I cannot find one single element to give negative feedback on and the decor etc is definitely NOT tired.

Very disappointed with the decor, tired, dared and old fashioned. Living on food quality reputation which is a shame. Needs a full refurb. Not the quality I was expecting for nearly £500 a night.
