The hotel room is very small, unlike domestic hotels, and the price/performance ratio is very poor. The two white female front desk staff are racist. The room seems to be monitored. As long as a third person appears in the room during the day, we will soon be called to ask us to ask the third person to exit. Room!

It's just a better B&B, but to be honest I can't appreciate it.
There is one room in one building, and the restaurant is downstairs.

It's a Relais & Châteaux hotel, but this was the only room available when I made the reservation. I didn't expect it to be so small. If you can afford it, book a larger one. It's comfortable to stay in and there's a Michelin restaurant downstairs.

We arrived 2.45 and was offered tea and coffee before checking in time.which was 2pm. As we sat in the lounge..a good 25mins later..we wondered why no one had come to ask us..eventually we.went to look for someone to order tea and coffee. We have big suite in the main hotel.. first thing we noticed was hairs in the bathroom..and then hairs in the hot tub..it really did not give a good impression. We had dinner at Source and again staff attention was lacking..throughout the 9 course meal, water was.not poured. The last disappointment was at the end of the course, we were too full, we said we will take the petition fours to our room, the waiter came told us the petition fours which included 2 macaroons, and said they were all in the takeaway box. To our surprise, when we got back to the suite, we saw that there were no.macarons in the box!.such detail should never have happened. Finally, we were asking to see if the electric charger parking spot was available..and was told by staff that the "managers" had parked in the spots and someone should tell them they were for guests.. All in all, the end of stay was a disappointment. I am.giving it 3 stars which I feel is balanced in consideration of the food, location.

To start, we “enjoyed” our weekend, but my point is this is not a top notch 5* place nor Michelin * restaurant. We’ve eaten and stayed at many others and it just isn’t. - hotel and rooms tired - service lacking and not very attentive - numerous wrong orders and clumsy service elements in the source restaurant and the breakfasts - gardens and outsides not kept well - service charge added to EVERYTHING All in all very much first world problems but it’s good to get what you pay for. Not enough to complain about, but enough to go to a proper 5* next time. Shame.

Visiting this wonder place again, staying at the Lake House and then moving onto the Gilpin Hotel just up the road. As every other year we’ve stayed, wonderful reception, accommodation, food and wine, very accommodating staff both in the kitchen and front facing staff…

We have just returned from a magical escape at the Gilpin Hotel. I have to say we found the team were all amazing, attentive, and super helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. An absolute pleasure to be looked after by them . The food at both Spice and Source was exemplary, we had the pleasure of staying in the spa room and the attention to detail and service was amazing. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely two-night stay at Gilpin Lake House. Pros: - The service was absolutely 5-star. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, they really couldn’t do enough for us. - The Lake House setting is beautiful, absolutely idyllic. - The main hotel is too far to realistically walk but they offer a chauffeur service to get you up there at any time. The main hotel is beautifully decorated with good facilities (small spa with treatment rooms, two restaurants and a bar) - The food is fantastic. Source and Spice restaurants up at the main hotel were both a real treat, and the breakfast service at the Lake House was very good. Cons: - The Lake House is a really special place with its gorgeous location and homely feel, however it’s in need of a facelift to match the price point, in my opinion. The decor felt quite cluttered and dated. I think there are ways to retain the homely, antique vibe whilst making it feel fresher and more high end. This applies mainly to the bedroom/bathroom and the pool area, but the restaurant and bar could use a bit of freshening up too in my opinion.
