Shepherd’s Run

The breakfast receives high praise for its taste and quality. Guests appreciate the cozy, spacious rooms and great bathroom. The exceptionally friendly staff ensures a warm, personalized atmosphere during check-in and check-out.

TLDR: No wonder they only sell light snacks with the wine—you need to be drunk to enjoy your “getaway” stay here. It’s as if the rooms were designed and never slept in to see what it’s like for an actual guest to stay. Sound and light poured into the room from the hallway as the door jams gapped wide open. Stomping in the night leaves you begging for soundproofing. Hoping to soak? The hot tub closes at sundown as they haven’t organized lighting for it so forget this amenity minus just after check in/check out (and they said this feedback has been given a lot…). Also, enjoy your scavenger hunt looking for it. Zero signage until you find it in the basement of a wing of the building. The firepit is all over their instagram but when asked if it could be lit for hotel guests on a snowy weekend we were told it’s only for events (wood was in pit and easily could have been done ((overnight staff was there)), especially given how so many of the advertised and scheduled programming/amenities were cancelled/closed). Nothing else to do but go back to your room or “perhaps you’d like to buy more wine?”. Zero attempt to hide the fact they accept hotel bookings to subsidize their wedding business during the slow season with as little effort as possible. No robes in room, white wine was warm in the room with no glasses or ice bucket (we’d ordered it ahead as a room add on to have upon arrival), etc etc. Honestly the list goes on for how poorly they struck out on delivering the experiences they depict on their website that you’re buying. Forget staying comfortably as a hotel guest; its sole purpose is to be a wedding factory. Make a common hotel request and be ready to be met with indifference and apathy. I would equally shudder to think how overnight guests are treated at an event when they’re not the ones holding the purse strings given how they treat regular hotel guests. To expect *anything* (but a bed and the option to buy something from their glorified version of a tasting room/check in desk) leads one to enjoying little here at Shepherds Run. If anything could be called a saving grace you might consider the continental breakfast to be a reprieve from feeling you’ve been all but forgotten about (the delicious frittata must be acknowledged). If I sound bitter it’s only because I am. One night, over $500 spent on property and very little sleep or enjoyment to show for it. Trust the reviews that warn you it’s not worth it.
