Hotel la Tonnarella

The staff is friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The idyllic setting offers stunning views, while the spacious rooms and balconies provide comfort. Some guests found the breakfast basic but adequate.

My spouse and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and we couldn’t be happier about our choice. We booked a deluxe double room with a sea view — we were given room 18, which, as other reviewers have pointed out, had an incredible balcony that was the size of the room itself! And it goes without saying that the view was breathtaking. The hotel itself was nothing short of gorgeous at every turn. The floor tiles and décor throughout were classic Sorrento style, and every outdoor area was filled with beautiful plants and neo-Classical statues. When we were making our way down to their beach/lunch restaurant area, it was like walking through an enchanted forest. All of the staff were highly professional, helpful, and kind. The waitstaff especially seemed to love their job. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant whenever we’d had an exhausting day and didn’t want to make the 20 minute walk into town (4 times total) and it was delicious. They always provided us free bread & olive oil, as well as a tiny free appetizer that changed each time we went. The breakfast buffet was also great, with a wide array of foods — cheeses, cured meats, eggs, a number of Campanian pastries, bacon, and fruit, just to name a few. Overall, La Tonnarella played a massive role in making our honeymoon as magical as it was. We don’t regret spending 60% of our trip budget on the hotel alone! **However,** there is one thing that really frustrated me about the hotel. I’ll leave my rating at 5 stars only because this site doesn’t do half stars — I think it actually deserves a 4.5. The hotel room minibar/snack shelf was not free. Now normally I wouldn’t complain about that, but the problem is that there was ZERO indication that you had to pay — no sign posted, no price list, no verbal indication at check-in. Because of that, and because it’s already an expensive hotel, we assumed the drinks and snacks were free and helped ourselves throughout the week. Getting hit with that bill at the end of our stay (on top of the city tax) was frustrating to say the least. Turns out the 200 mL wine/prosecco bottles were €10 each. A tiny packet of instant coffee powder was €3, as were all the snacks (which were almost identical to those free little snacks handed out on flights). Really not cool to be surprised with that. I hope that in the future they make this clearer to guests! There’s a couple other little negatives I’ll note for transparency’s sake, though they didn’t detract much from our enjoyment or impact our rating: — In our room there was something placed on the curtain rod that prevents you from closing the curtains for the sliding door to our balcony — this was somewhat annoying, as you can imagine how bright it gets in the morning. Every night we had to fashion a makeshift curtain setup to block the morning light. — There is a *lot* of variation in how the rooms look (layout, dimensions, furnishings) even within the same tier. We knew this going in, but I still think it would be nice
