Iberostar Waves Paraíso del Mar

I will start with the Positives of this venue: 1. The Events Team did a Fabulous job for our Couple. I am a Wedding Planner. Mireya and Karem are superstars! 2. Agustin, the Bell Boy is the Friendliest, most Accommodating Staff Member at the ENTIRE Resort. 3. Miguel, the Bartender at the Lobby Bar in the Evening is always happy, helpful and professional. The Negatives - by the way this is far from a 5 Star Resort 1. Barely any of the Staff speaks English. 2. It's a miracle if a staff member says hello or smiles. 3. Security tried to enter our room (2 Female Wedding Planners) without knocking and just opened our door and told us to relax as I was about to jump in the shower and was not appropriately dressed. No apologies from Management. 4. There are not enough shuttles/carts running. Guests walked most of the time to restaurants, the beach, the pool and the lobby EXCEPT on event days, they were great! 5. Their are are no lunch options located in the center of the Resort, this is challenging for elderly guests. 6. The Fire alarm went off in our Building (20) 3 times one evening and twice the next day without any explanation or apologies although we complained. 7. A lot of the Staff Members are to the point of being rude, almost as though you are bothering them when asking for something. I do not recommend this Resort except for Weddings and Events. They saved the week.

First, the food was terrible — poorly prepared, and unfortunately made me seriously sick. My family and I ended up with very bad food poisoning that ruined the rest of our stay. There are serious hygiene issues in the kitchen. Second, the pool was absolutely filthy. We usually spend most of our time on the beach while on vacation. However, this time the beach was full of seaweed, and the hotel was barely cleaned that grass. During the 7 days of staying at the hotel, only once was seaweed cleared from the beach. So we had only the pool to enjoy, but the water was cloudy, there was debris floating in it, and the area around it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Toilets were cleaned very rarely during the day. To make matters worse, the room was infested with bugs. I found cockroaches crawling around and even a massive centipede near the bed. It was horrifying. No one should have to sleep in those conditions.

The whole area is occupied by 4 Iberostar hotels, this is 1 of the 2 lowest grades. These 2 lowest grade resorts share all the facilities with a big long swimming pool in the middle. The long stretch from the inland to the beach is in the order shopping mall, gym, reception, restaurants, then rooms, rooms and rooms, then beach. There are several shuttles running along the resorts, but may not be very frequent. The swimming pool area is quite spacious when compared to the 1 besides of higher grade. But the higher grade’s pool has more features, like wave pool. The pool has a very nice member only area. I think these 2 lower grade resorts were the 1st to build so they occupy the best part of the beach. The beach is always wavy and not suitable for swimming. There are rocky areas and sea **** lies along the beach. The rooms are in 3 levels buildings stretching from the beach inwards, there is no elevator. You can arrange with the front desk to pick up and deliver the luggages. The room is simple, clean and spacious. There is a rack of clothes hanging lines in the balcony. May be because of low season, for breakfast and lunch, there is only 1 restaurant open at 1 time and it can be far away. Breakfast and lunch items are basically the same everyday. Dinner buffet has some special theme nights, but most items repeat. Food, service and atmosphere are better in the other restaurants in the resort but may be difficult to book. The staff are friendly and helpful, the front desk had ran to the neighbouring hotel to get me some US$ change, much appreciated. There are always minor maintenance problems with Iberostar hotels, this time the drinking water refill was not working, running out of hand soap refill and the toilet would not stop flushing.
