The Riviera Maya Edition at Kanai

Amazing experience.. could not recommend more! The staff were so friendly and the service everywhere was top notch. It really makes a difference. You can tell it’s a new property with stunning architecture and views that creates an amazing vibe. If you are looking to lay out at the beach all day or hang by the beautiful pool this is the place for you. We will definitely be back!

I rarely leave reviews for things but our experience here was so great that I have to. We just returned from spending 6 nights at this property and we couldn’t be raving about our experience more. The property itself is absolutely beautiful upon approach, it’s extremely secluded and does not feel like you’re 30 minutes away from the airport. Once you’re inside it’s stunning and every detail is beautifully designed and well executed. We had an ocean view plunge pool room on the ground floor which was also a really nice choice, however we did not end up using this much after the first morning because the two other pools and beach were far too nice to not use instead. The room itself was very big and had lots of space, lots of closet space to store luggage out of sight. The service and experience at the So’ol Beach Club and the beach itself were 10/10 - so many options for ordering food, on Sunday they had a special menu with grilled seafood also had a DJ which was a fun touch. Every hostess and server here was absolutely phenomenal especially Willie and Marco to name a few. The boutique in the hotel also was really nicely curated and had some interesting brands which is nice to see for a hotel boutique, I did buy a couple things. The spa in the hotel is also beautiful - it was my birthday while we were at the hotel and the spa manager invited us for a complimentary thermal experience to celebrate this which was extremely generous and appreciated. All of the restaurants at The Edition were amazing as well, there’s also golf carts to take you over to the St. Regis (we definitely recommend going to Toro for dinner - the staff and manger were all wonderful over there also) however the dining options within The Edition are good enough to warrant staying there - the experience at Ki’is was beyond and we haven’t stopped talking about. We ended up dining there twice, after going back for a wine tasting - once we were done we just decided to stay for dinner there, Roberto and another gentleman who did our wine tasting and second were truly outstanding and gave us some of the best service we’ve ever had in a restaurant. The breakfast service at Kitchen was also great with a large menu and like everywhere else had amazing service by Fernando. The concierge team was also great as expected, Joshua especially who was able to secure us a last minute reservation for Toro, so many other people could be named because everyone was out standing. We have zero complaints about this property and our time there and we could not recommend it more - we’re already looking at booking another stay over the coming winter months. The resort is absolutely beautiful, stunning actually, a mix of modern architecture and Tulum-inspired touches. Both of our rooms were light and airy, giving spa vibes. The beach is perfectly white, uncrowded and quiet (re: no one trying to sell you anything). Another pro was that the service was outstanding. From housekeeping to the poolside staff, everyone was lovely and attentive. Even over Thanksgiving week, it did not feel crowded and there were plenty of employees to meet our every need. Although we had a wonderful time, there were several cons that may prevent us from going back. While we really enjoyed the peace and quiet, we felt quite isolated from sightseeing, sundries, and snacks. The first day we taxied to town just to get cream for our in-room coffee ($10 coffees at the pool bar) and snacks because every restaurant felt like fine dining (at least the price was), and sometimes you just want low-brow. Our cheapest meals were our poolside lunches for $200+/- (4 adults, quesadillas and guacamole and Diet Pepsis, no alcohol). We ended up cancelling all of our dinners onsite and taxied to town to enjoy local sights and food. Similarly, we were shocked to learn the resort holds $300 per person per day for incidentals. After seeing the food and alcohol prices, I suppose we could have gotten there but holding $9600K is crazy. The woman next to us at check-in paid the same for her two and four year olds. And, this policy is NOT anywhere on the site or in our reservation. This really irked us.
