We have visited Smithfield, VA at least once a year over the past 20+ years. There aren't many places to stay. This used to be one of the better places but not anymore. At check-in we weren't welcomed or recognized for being a Hilton Honors member. After check in, we were asked, "do you want your water?" Not, "here is your complimentary waters." Our room was very "weathered". The carpet was stained, the walls had holes that were visibly patched, the full length mirror that covers the closet in Hampton Inns was not there . . . It was not appealing. Was it because we used Hilton Honors points to stay there which made it a free stay? The gym was unbearably hot/humid. We were not comfortable at all and hope we won't be forced to stay here again. Think twice if you are used to Hilton and their friendliness and perfection. This didn't emulate their brand, at all. I will say that our bathroom was clean and the housekeeper was very nice. But the towels were very thin. When we were leaving and wanted to check out to make sure we weren't charged for our room, there was nobody at the front desk. They had a sign that said they would be back soon. An hour later, same thing. We called and somebody did appear. This was 5 AM in the morning but it made me feel uncomfortable knowing that somebody could've walked into the hotel while we were sleeping and came up to our floor.
