A once solid country inn which has seen better days and has lost its luster. My family and I have been stopping at the Yates consistently twice a year on our way to visit family for over 25 years. It has always been a place of friendly staff, down to earth wholesome service and solid food. However, last year when we stopped by in August 2024 the breakfast we had was not up to the usual standard. The cheapest of thick cut bacon which was super salty and swimming in fat, sausages which were gristly and eggs which were likewise more oil than egg. However, the usual friendly staff and fast service made it a comfortable part of our routine so I was willing to let it slide as a one off bad experience. Alas, it was not a one off. Today (April 25), we stopped in for breakfast again and things had gotten worse. The usually friendly staff were nowhere to be seen, instead there was seemingly poorly trained, standoffish and extremely slow staff. We ordered breakfast and once again the quality was awful. Eggs were undercooked despite explicit requests multiple times for them to be well done. The bacon and sausage were awful quality and swimming in oil. To make it worse, the breakfast was not served with the basket of toast as we have been used to for 25+ years, instead there was a piece of already buttered toast halved on the plate...What? Who paws over and butters customers' toast? And I know the cost of living is an issue and businesses are watching their bottom line, but a single slice of toast? Nope. No. Especially not when as the quality has bottomed out, the price has climbed. We asked for more toast and did get a side plate with another round eventually but after 25+ years of loyal custom I have decided this will be our last ever trip to the Yates until I hear from local family that there has been major improvements.

Awful scruffy decor mismatched old fashioned scruffy furnishings , chipped paintwork down at heel generally.. water appeared to have a greenish tinge? Very nice staff tho...bathroom very clean but no way would I stay again ..I'm used to better, most people would be! Needs total makeover and expensive !

Visited the restaurant for lunch last tuesday 3/12/2024. Pleasant atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. We ordered from the specials menu; my colleague had turkey and ham which he said was very tasty however the boiled potatoes served with it were more than a little undercooked. I ordered beef served with mash and vegetables. The brocoli was inedible as it was very undercooked. I like my vegetables to be al dente but the florette was close to being raw. The beef consisted of two very thin slices which were so overcooked the meat disolved into shredded little pieces. When paying at the till I expressed my disappointment and received a perfunctory apology but still paid €36 for the two dinners. Having heard good things about the restaurant I was I very disappointed with the experience which is a pity as other than the food everything was good and the toilettes were spotlessly clean. ‍

This is the typical country Inn. Small number of rooms, super friendly staff, and true country setting. The rooms are quaint and comfortable. Friendly feel with books to browse or read throughout the hotel. The restaurant has great food, however in busy times I would make a reservation. The food was great! Lots of parking. There is a neighborhood pub just across the road. WE really enjoyed our stay

We called in on our way to visit friends in Castlebar. The food was wonderful 👍 We both had the, Soup of the day with Guinness and Treacle Bread. What a treat! I then had fish, chips and mushy peas, delicious. My Husband had the Braised Steak and loved it. The staff were all so friendly. The hotel itself could do with some new carpeting, but can't fault the food.

Went for a post funeral meal ( last week) November 23 . The meal was paid for by the Marist Sisters . The meal was booked in advance for 70 to 80 people . The hotel knew in advance the numbers that would be attending . All the guests were seated by 2.00 -- 2.15 pm . The tables had been set up cutlery , glasses ,tableware etc clean table clothes set for the function with water , and diluted orange at every table , all looked good everything presentable . From then on everything went downhill , the calamity began . Not everyone got a menu. At our table of 12 we had two menus, it was doable we managed but more menus would have been better. We ordered our starters and main . Then for some unknown reason everyone got a thin a slice of bread, even those who did not order soup but no butter ,no jam which I found strange . Starters randomly appeared in no sequence , some diners at some tables had eaten the starter while others seated next to them had no starter for another 30 minutes . The table I was at was similar some got soup some seated beside them didnt get soup until half an hour later , others starters randomly appeared or didnt appear for ages . I ordered the chicken vol - au- vent,, it took for ever , everyone at my table finished there soup when some of the other tables started getting the main course .when I started my starter,, it was chewy chicken gloopy sauce not great just warm not really hot enough ,took a bite plastic micro wave taste ,I did not eat it but since it was a funeral meal I did not want to say anything. At this stage it was over an hour since we sat down for the meal . I picked at the slice of the bread that everyone got an hour earlier , we had to ask the waiting staff for butter. At the stage some of the other tables started eating there main . 30 minutes later still we had no food . Our table and the adjoining table asked several times for our main . Staff had no coordination ,seemed like it was the first day for all of them . some tables cleared from the starter ,some not cleared while at the same time the odd beef main appeared at most tables with the salmon delayed . Again similar situation with service as for starters some had food others nothing some diners had finished ,some still no main which was what happened at our table . Very chaotic staff no one to supervise the service. Most at my table ordered salmon with one beef order . It was nearly 4pm when we got our main that was a two hour wait for most at the table. My salmon was overdone but at the same time luke warm in the middle . The cubed veg ,, carrot and I think parsnip hard luke warm , I picked at salmon and ate the bread which had been on the table now for two hours and asked the the other two diners could I have the bread they got ,, which they kindly let me have (since they cant eat bread)

Booked a table for 6, questioned the price of the pint. Told we were drunk and that we had to leave. Obviously a rip off, €20 for 2 pints. €10 back when questioned and then asked to leave. Staff extremely RUDE!!! Won’t ever go there again!!!!!!!!!!!
