The lodge is in a perfect location to explore the out-of-the-way Nabesna area of Wrangell-St Elias National Park. The yurt itself was well outfitted with everything I needed for my four night stay. The owners have put a lot of time, thought and effort into providing quality services. This was my 6th lodge/hotel during my three week visit to Alaska and by far the most comfortable and relaxing. I would hike during the day and just hang out and appreciate being off the grid the rest of the time. Also appreciated were the very tasty dinners that were served when I didn't want to prep my own meals. I found it very hard to pack up to leave and head to the hubbub of Anchorage.

Outstanding experience in every way. Unique accommodations in a lovingly restored historic cabin. Outstanding gourmet meals served in fine style, including a carefully prepared bag lunch. Very friendly owner. Don't miss this hidden gem!

The yurts are really nice! Comfy and cozy and with everything you need. The meal plan is necessary if you aren't bringing food to cook or anything. The meals are great with salad, entree and dessert. The maitre'd was wonderful. This is a family run business and is off grid. Be prepared. The solitude was great - lots of trails near by. Relaxation is what you'll find.

Avens Alaska is all about getting away from the hectic life we all live. Going to a place that has no ringing phones, or too many people is so rejuvenating. We spent 3 nights in Foxs Den, without running water, but with 30 feet was the Wash House, that made that a non issue. There was a bottle with a pump of water for drinking and cooking in the cabin. The bed was very comfortable, and it was so peaceful and quiet for sleeping. Fording the creeks in 4 wheel drive was one of the best highlights!! Michael and Victoria are very knowledgeable about the lands around them, and more than willing to share stories, and suggestions to make your stay exciting. We will be going back for the fall colors, and can't wait!!

The family running Avens is super friendly and helpful, and the cabins are gorgeous, clean, and set up with everything you need for cooking and such. It’s super peaceful here with gorgeous scenery all around. I was here alone but plan to return with my family next year!

What an incredible place! You will not regret your stay here. Everything from the details of the living quarters to the wonderful hosts to their amazing dogs to the outstanding food made this trip a dream. We stayed in a yurt (highly recommend) and did a stunning hike to Rambler Mine which had the ruins of a mining encampment covered in wildflowers at the top of a steep, short incline. We also got to explore the lake a bit, eat homemade bacon salmon chowder, and cozy up next to the fireplace in the yurt. If you're looking for a place to escape the world, meet genuinely kind and friendly people, and get an authentic Alaskan atmosphere, look no further.

Was in Alaska for 3 weeks and this was by far the nicest prettiest best place we stayed. Mike and Victoria have created a five star lodge in Wrangell St Elias. The cabin included kitchenette and large living space. The beautiful detail was evident. The lodge is a wonderfully restored building true to Alaska. And that is where breakfast and dinner are served. Meals are gourmet, really. Innovative, made with thought and care. As good or better than any city high end restaurant but with ingredients local to Alaska. Please go try it for yourself, it is amazing.
