Villa Chara

We received an extremely warm welcome on arrival. The owners really wanted us to enjoy our stay and encouraged us to take the first floor room because of the beautiful view. The villa is set in well tended beautiful gardens and is handy for the beach and bus stop 6, although it’s only a 20-30 min saunter into town. It’s also only a 10 minute walk to our favourite beach bar ”Swell” which is on the nicer part of the beach (in our opinion). The rooms are well appointed especially given that it’s only a 2 star rating. The owners are a delightful Greek couple who introduced us to their beautiful Siamese cat and their extremely friendly Yorkshire terrier. Some of the previous reviews may be off putting but if you like Greece and you know what to expect you won’t be disappointed. We will happily stay at Villa Chara again in the future.

Let's be clear, this is basic two star accommodation. The positives are that the rooms are clean, across the road from the beach, there is a working fridge and there is air con (8 euro per day). The negatives are generally around the lack of hot water, poor shower pressure and no wifi. Also, the shower head is not attached to the wall, so you have to do the one handed shower shuffle. Would i return, it have to be a no.

Villa Chara is about as bad as it gets. This place has so much potentional to be clean, and friendly. However it's a dirty, mouldy hole. My pillow cases and towels had stains from other guests. This was nothing to do with me. Despite the owner being adamant it was. The place doesn't have proper showers as advertised or a pool as some photos on review sites suggest. The air conditioning is always chargeable. As the windows don't have netting it's either be eaten alive by inspects or cook in the stifling hot rooms. There is no WiFI either. The beautiful garden looks like the amazon, the grass far too long for relaxing in safely. It is unkempt and needs some serious work. The owner is rude and obnoxious. Actually tried to punch me too on checkout. Luckily my reflexes are quick and I stopped that from happening. The only day the apartment was cleaned was the day a Jet2 rep finally agreed to come and visit the place. Then it was properly cleaned and the mouldy fridge and dirty pillow cases replaced. The complex and indeed the entire island is overrun with cats, perhaps someone should import a large hungry wolf. The fact that Jet2 actually promote and sell this place is beyond all belief. It's dirty, dated, expensive and has an owner who should be sectioned.
