Sitka Hotel and Restaurant

The Sitka Hotel was a disappointment. First, the positives: the room was good sized and clean. The bed was comfortable. The hotel location is close to the center of town. Then the not so good. They advertised an included breakfast. Upon check in, it was communicated that they no longer offer a breakfast of any kind. Our room was supposed to be a “mountain view” room … there were mountains visible, but only if you craned your neck and looked out the window a certain way. The WiFi was awful … it would connect for 60-90 seconds … then it would drop. Over and over and over again. It was completely unusable. Visiting the lobby … the connection was a tiny bit stronger … but not good. And finally, the customer service was non-existent. We arrived to the hotel before check in time and acknowledged we were early. We stored our bags and went out to explore. We returned shortly after 3 p.m. (the noted check in time) and were not acknowledged by the front desk staff. As the moments ticked by, numerous others came to check in, to the point where the lobby became crowded. The front desk staff was busy changing shift and discussing how rooms were not ready. Not one customer was acknowledged. Finally, about 3:20 p.m., the front desk clerk ask the entire lobby how they could help. People were checked in. We got to our turn … and our room was not ready. It was just about 4 p.m. before we finally got to our room. The communication could have been dramatically better. We stayed two nights … and our room was not made up. It was never communicated if rooms would be made up after each night or not. Sitka is a lovely town; just stay in a different hotel.

The hotel clerk was extremely helpful to us. We had come to town long before check-in and left hours after check-out. He handled our luggage and helped with our choice of transportation. . Nice room with a tub in the bathroom. I love this! . The location was wonderful. We walked to everything in town, including the national historical park. . The hotel bar closed at nine o'clock on Saturday night!! What?!! No problem. They sent us next door to Mean Queen.

Excellent hotel. Due to my early flight, when I arrived 3 hours before check-in, the staff was very accommodating & provided me with the room right away!
