Let's start with the cleanliness of the rooms and the room, I have rarely found such a high level, everything "shiny and fragrant". The hotel is very well located, it is located in the center of Syracuse and in less than 10 minutes of pleasant walking you can reach the splendid Ortigia. Highly professional staff, very helpful and kind. Particularly varied and high-quality sweet and savory breakfast. The structure is a period building perfectly renovated and converted into a hotel, with a few rooms (I think around 15) and common areas that have the right colors and the right lighting. We will return and next time we will also dine at the restaurant which, among other things, offers hotel guests a 10% discount.

Let’s begin with arriving to the hotel… no help with the luggage, dismissive attitude from the front desk (kind of a joke to call that front desk, since there is only one person to take care of all). After completing the checkin we were assigned the rooms. That was the exact moment we understood that having expectations from here was a mistake. The card keys are numbered which shows that there is no such a thing as multiple and unique key but rather a single plastic card. Another sign that this was NOT 5 star quality. When we entered the room, we noticed that the walls were stained, they had marks all over (lugagge or other) but then came the worst part, the blanket had yellow miscellaneous stains thus making the whole idea to sleep there disgusting. Another of the rooms booked had chipped celling paint. In our room, the cover to the base of the hanging lamp was midway towards the lamp rather than attached to the celling plate, etc.etc.etc. As you can imagine, we rapidly started to find another place to spend the 4 days we're spending in Siracusa, since we decided that we were not staying here. As we came down, the front desk person was startled that we were leaving. I explained the lamp part as an example and he proudly said that it has been like that for the last ten years and it was very secure; as for the stains, he adamantly explained to me that nobody else has complained about it and that what we were seeing was clearly "not there". As I write this review, the hotel is disputing that they will charge the full amount of the stay vs. my proposal to pay only one night. They argue that we did not explain in detail why we were leaving (another example of their abominable customer service). I hope that this explanation is sufficient for them. This is a property that, if anything, is barely three stars.

Great location, amazing staff, fantastic restaurant! Hotel is well located in Siracusa, close to Ortigia. Rooms are clean and spacious. But the best of this hotel is the incredible friendly staff, and the quality of their Restaurant Il Tirano - Chef Valentina is a rock star!

We stayed for 3 nights in early September. We had booked a classic room as nothing else was available and had contacted the hotel a few days before our arrival to see if it would be possible to upgrade. We were told it was not. We checked in late and were allocated room 103. We arrived in our room to discover the room is small with a small window overlooking the internal courtyard but nicely furnished but we noticed odd things like it was almost impossible to access the safe in the cupboard and the safe was so small it was not big enough for a lap top or A4 documents. We ****** up the 'crap room' as we were tired and were prepared to make the best of it, however, the air conditioning was 'not working and by midnight we were were unable to sleep and it was difficult to breath. Giovani provided a fan and we tried to tough it out but by 1.30am were were being given a junior suite opposite to sleep in while also being told they would sort our room out in the morning. After breakfast the next day we were advised the air conditioning in room 103 had a problem and were moved to room 105 where the air conditioning was working. This was a larger room with windows overlooking the street. The safe was a normal size. We were able to sleep. we stayed 2 more nights and on checking our discovered that another guest had the same problem we did in Room 103. The guest was at reception complaining and they were being moved to room 105 as we had checked out. What I noticed is that the hotel team let room 103 in hot weather knowing that the air conditioning was not working/up to the job. This is NOT very 5 Star! What the hotel are not recognising here is that guests are on their holidays and to allocate small, airless, room where the air conditioning is not working or is not effective is just too awful. They gave at least 4 guests a very uncomfortable first night. I am surprised at how many reviews say Breakfast is great.....we thought it was bitty and messy, food goes a bit stale if you don't get down early but hotel serves the best coffee. Staff were excellent, they spoke multiple languages, were very friendly and had great service skills. I would not rate this hotel as 5 Star by UK standards....so don't book with high expectations. Consider it at best a 4 star. The location is good for the train station and Ortigia Island and the other Syracuse attractions. I would not stay here again.
