I actually have been to Finca Valbono twice with my Nordic Walking Team from Wareham, Dorset. I live in Alaska but have been coming over pre-Covid in 2018 and 2019. I am planning a return in October 2024 with the same Nordic Walking Fit Dorset team. I'm excited to return to Spain, where I lived for over a decade in the 70s (I'm a naturalized Spanish citizen ). The owners of this charming gem in the Sierras de Aracena are awesome folks - Monica and Blas - and are easygoing, friendly, and gracious hosts. They went above and beyond all expectations. I remember our chats by the bar in my tongue (Spanish), which was nice since I don't get to speak it much anymore in Alaska. The food/wine was great, and the lodging was cozy and relaxing after a day hiking the sierras. Don't expect good wifi connectivity (unless it's changed), but that is fine when one wants to get lost in the tranquil outback of southern Spain. Both my previous times were in April, but even though it was chilly, I did get into their fabulous pool! After living in Alaska for 40 years, I am used to colder weather. This coming trip will be in October, so I am looking forward to my return to the Spain, I love, and to this particular finca. I will miss seeing the lovable miniature Schnauzer Gunther, who passed away a few years back. He was always at my door, begging for a tidbit…I think he was not supposed to be doing that but... who can resist those melting brown eyes?
