Harbour Hotel & Spa Sidmouth

Lovely stay at Sidmouth Harbour hotel for a weekend away. Bedroom was clean and bed comfy, dinner was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. We used the outdoor pool as the weather was glorious, didn’t use the indoor but it looked nice if the weather wasn’t as good. Sidmouth itself is a pleasant town with a variety of shops and a clean beach with lifeguards and watersport hire available. Would recommend.

We really like The Harbour brand and like their other properties this one is in a great location with stunning coastal views. The general service, room facilities and food and beverages are good but there’s a lack of finesse that would make the experience and our rating be better. On our arrival afternoon we went to the bar lounge and deck to find tables not cleared from lunch. We needed to go to the bar to order a drink rather than being served. Staff were cheerful enough when spoken to but seemed more engaged with their work rather than joyfully serving guests. The fire alarm sounded twice while we were there, once in the restaurant at dinner and then at 0530 in our room. No explanation was given and when I later asked the receptionist, it was shrugged off without any apology so I expect it’s a normal occurrence for them? (It was the same receptionist who we asked 3 times for water in our room and it still didn’t arrive! Thanks to Colin the night porter who fixed it instantly). We had no idea who was managing the hotel as there seemed to be nobody keeping an oversight of service. Dinners and breakfasts were good and in our opinion, offered good value. At dinner on the first night Ellie served us well, professional, smiley and efficient! Hotel room pricing we felt too offered good value by comparison with their 2 neighbouring hotels. Our room was spaciousness, well equipped and comfortable. Attention to detail let it down a little with a broken blind and blocked vanity sink. Our elderly mother used the spa and received great care from the spa staff and she loved her hot stones massage. Thanks to all the staff tho, we appreciate how hard they were working for us guests and we enjoyed our stay.

A Probus group of 20+ ladies met for their Summer Lunch at the Harbour Hotel Sidmouth. We enjoyed relaxing pre- lunch drinks in the delightful lounge overlooking splendid oceanic views of Sidmouth. Lunch was served by friendly, helpful staff according to individuals' menu choices. The food was attractively presented and many appreciative comments were made about delicious food. After our meals coffee was available in the lounge but we would have preferred to have it served instead of helping ourselves. We would be happy to return again.

We booked this hotel for 4 nights after visiting the one in Conwy which we loved. Hotel is in an enviable spot lovely views and a nice 10 minute downhill to town. The pool and terrace area is a nice place to relax. The restaurant and staff all very friendly breakfast was very good and evening meal up to standard for 4 star hotel. The things that let it down was the parking when booking in we couldn’t park so had to go to public car park across the road and pay. Each time we came back from days out we could never park so it was very annoying. I understand there is a spa and people pay for membership but perhaps they should be asked to go to the public carpark. On speaking to other guests they had the same problem. I. Think the bed was one of the most comfortable and the room was good. A magnifying mirror would be useful in the bathroom.we enjoyed overall but when booking again I will always check re parking we are lucky we are mobile but some of the other guests were less so.

The staff were helpful. The food good. Location also good. The big disappointment was the noise 24/7 over our room from, we think, the kitchen extract fan. It was annoying enough during the day, but at night even worse and we had to sleep with earplugs - this in one of the most expensive rooms. What possessed the owners to fit industrial sized extract fans anywhere near bedrooms? Compounding matters our very expensive room was located over the restaurant. The background music from which we could hear and had to ask for it to be turned down. Both noises rendered use of the balcony unpleasant. For those reasons we shall never return and treat all other Harbour hotels with skepticism. In Sidmouth there are plenty of other 4star hotels with rave reviews.

Upper Deck staff wonderful. Food fine. Reception staff helpful and efficient. Spa: fine. Room care poor: * Bath unclean when I arrived. Plug stuck so water couldn't drain from a sink. * Provision of bottles of water, biscuits and tea/coffee variable.
