The good stuff: large room. Exceptionally clean everywhere. Breakfast cooked well and served very quickly and accurately. Nice to be able to open bedroom doors directly to garden and watch the chickens. Breakfast serving staff very pleasant. Amazing eggs from chickens roaming feee range in the garden. Short walk into town. Netflix/Prime etc on TV. Nice sofa area to sit near bar. Very interesting building and history. Quite relaxed feel overall. Car park ok and we have a large car so not sure why people have issues with it. Less impressive: Breakfast choice limited to full English (and variations thereof)or kippers. Tinned fruit, apples, granola, yoghurt, cereal. Not much variation if you are staying for more than a night or two. Ingredients and jams etc are on the cheaper side. Breakfast slot between 8-8.45 is early when on holiday. Not really a hotel, more like a large B&B. ‘Honesty bar’ has a price list and is help yourself. Not once asked if we had a nice day or a nice stay, even when paying bill. General interaction with guests by owner minimal. The owner grumbled about her husband and there was no smile, not once. Pillows hard or lumpy (we bring our own wherever we go anyway). Bed hard for us. Toiletries very basic. No body lotion or conditioner. Felt a bit ‘budget’ in terms of provisions and furniture in conservatory not nice. This could be a fantastic area. Owner pleasant upon arrival but showed us around in his trainers socks and no shoes? Room one can have a little bit of conversation disturbance outside as it opens next to bar and seating area. It didn’t bother us but might be an issue for some. Overall a nice stay as lots and lots to do in the region but I don’t think we would return to the Woodlands.

What a veritable gem of a hotel hidden in plain sight. The pink facade does not highlight the fresh and welcoming interior of this exquisite hotel. With a warm welcome to both humans and dogs its a relaxing place to enjoy your stay. Great conservatory open to the garden is a lovely suntrap to sit and while away the hours sipping on a great range of drinks from the bar. Rooms are well sized with really comfy beds. Don't let the small dinner menu fool you, it's packed full of great tasting food and enough to satisfy all taste buds. Its run by two glorious people who really care and makeing you feel warm and welcome like a member iof the family. Highly rated.

Booked here at last minute. Had nice bedroom with balcony overlooking the garden. Enjoyed watching the chickens. Some noise from bedroom next door. A warm welcome from Dan. How good to be shown where you will be sitting for meals instead of standing before the meal waiting to be seated. Breakfast good - cooked breakfast not the most extensive but the best ever - top quality & well cooked. Fab staff. Dinner 3 courses £35 - good home cooked food. Plenty of seating in conservatory etc.Walk to town easy. Parking OK. BUT the most amazing thing at the Hotel is the cleanliness - everywhere looked just decorated & SO CLEAN. I have been to Specsavers recently!

Couldn't fault the cleanliness and ambience of the whole hotel. The food was excellent and well presented, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was very pleasant and the bed was very comfortable. Thank you, Dan and Megan, for making our stay such a pleasant experience.

We did a hiking trip along the Jurassic Coast, and of all the places we stayed, the Woodlands was by far the high mark. A beautiful building with lots of character and charm, and Dan and Megan were absolute joys (absolutely gracious hosts with delightful senses of humor which we always love when traveling abroad). Sadly we missed dinner—the first day of hiking was more arduous than anticipated, and we were lucky just to make it there with our feet attached!—but Megan provided some great recommendations for takeaway and the bed was extremely comfortable. Room and shower were both spacious, and the honor bar was a surprising twist! I hope all future guests treat it with respect, as it shows a mark of respect for the people they welcome into their hotel, and made it feel just that much homier. I wish we'd spent more than one night there, as we'd have loved to seen more of the town and been able to chat more with Dan and Megan. As it is, if we're ever back in Sidmouth, this is the place we'll be going!

An all too brief two night stay in this lovely historic property within easy walking distance of all that Sidmouth has to offer. Beautifully decorated and maintained, everything works really well and the level of hospitality enjoyed was, in my view, exceptional. Consequently I'm delighted to be able to write this review. Lovely public areas, a well stocked bar, a garden complete with free range chickens and even a warm welcome for well behaved dogs. Breakfast was notable for the excellent service, the choice and quality of the ingredients and best of all, food served hot on well warmed plates. The attention to such details makes a huge difference. Room was comfortable, quiet and with all that you might need. We slept really well, one of the benefits of a smaller property. In our experience, finding zero disturbance from large parties or coach arrivals and departures is a real benefit. So. A great choice if you are not wedded to a sea view or attracted to the larger hotels in Sidmouth. This worked perfectly for us and I'm pleased to say I did not need to disturb the car once as I was able to walk everywhere or access public transport very easily. TIP: Book direct with the property.

We stayed one night. The room (15) and en-suite bathroom were spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The honesty bar is a really lovely idea. We had dinner and breakfast, both were well cooked and well presented. The car park is a bit cramped, especially if you have a big car! We would definitely stay again.

Rooms are quiet, cozy, airy, spotlessly clean. The hosts are welcoming and the meals are delicious. Full breakfast is included, and dinners are extra but well worth it, especially the fresh fish dishes. This is my second visit to The Woodlands and I already look forward to the next time. The location is lovely; tucked away to be quiet, yet minutes from the sea and from the high street.
