The Victoria Hotel & Source Spa

Let’s start with a positives majority of the staff are exceptionally polite and courteous. It’s got a traditional charm and high standards. The three course dinner and breakfast were delicious, highly recommend the food. The spa has been modernised to high standard but it felt overcrowded with only eight people memberships and hotel guests. Now for our negatives! we didn’t spend much time in our room on the Saturday night, we stayed in the lobby listening to band. At around 6.45am on the Sunday morning, I was woken by the people around walking around their room. The chandelier was shaking and the glass shells rattling, it didn’t stop until 8am by that time I was wide awake. Then, when we returned to our room after breakfast, the chambermaid knocked the door and went explained we weren’t ready get (about 9.30 - but 11am check out). I went for a shower and as I was getting out the chambermaid entered the room without knocking, very embarrassed as my mother-in-law was in her swim wear and I was wrapped in a towel, she just looked down and left the room without a word. Then about 30mins later she walked in again, she did say sorry this time, which I said you must knock before entering rooms. We went down to check out of the room but stay for our spa treatment. The manger said he would get the chandelier checked by the maintenance team as they wouldn’t want it to disturb anymore guests. We went down to the spa and waited for a treatments, which were very good. When we settled the bill the manager had taken a cup of tea off the bill £4.50. It was meant to be a relaxing spa night away, to be woken up so early and then made to feel we had to leave our room was not what I expected.

A short break to assist in recovery following a stay in hospital . Good food ,friendly staff and first class service made it a really enjoyable experience.

We stayed for 5 days at the Victoria Hotel. The location of the hotel offers great views over the sea and parts of Sidmouth. There is ample car parking. The staff were pleasant, courteous and helpful. When we booked the stay we were told that the room we booked [205] was one of the best in the hotel. It clearly was not as we had a chance to see a couple of other rooms that were a lot more spacious with unrestricted seas views. Our room was OK but quite small with a restricted sea view. The breakfasts are superb but we did have some issues with the evening dinner. We found the beef, park and lamb to be overcooked and the liver to be undercooked and slimy in the middle. The fish courses were beautifully cooked and delicious. There seemed to be a big turnover of staff in the dining room and we had different servers each day. The cost of our stay was £554 per night and for that cost we should have had a better overall experience. Would we stay at the hotel again - possibly but we would make sure we get a room that we want and we might opt to eat out for some of the evening meals. A couple of years ago we stayed at the Victoria's sister hotel next door - The Belmont Hotel and some 5 years ago at the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel. In our view of the 3 hotels the Victoria is the best but it is more expensive than the others.

We have stayed at The Victoria Hotel, Sidmouth on a number of occasions over the years. From the moment we arrive everything is relaxed and professional. Staff are always polite, friendly and helpful. Whether eating in the White room (more relaxed) or in the main dining area-there is plenty of choice. The food is well prepared with a tempting array of desserts! A good wine list too! I really enjoyed the spa which has a wide selection of treatments-loved the hot stone massage!! A perfect location for relaxing and enjoying Sidmouth and the wider area.

Excellent food, a comfy bed, friendly staff and a convenient location. Can’t think of anything else to make up the required 100 characters!!

The Victoria is a beautiful hotel in an exceptional location. Our room was spacious and clean with a great view. Breakfasts were excellent as were the five-course dinners. The staff were all extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. We have stayed once before and fully intend to do so again.
