We had a pre drink in the sister wine bar next door which had a nice ambience . Then were shown to our table upstairs. Pleased to be on a table that had enough room. The staff were very friendly especially our main server, Scarlett who was lovely. I decided to go for the vegetarian options as I thought they sounded interesting and not the usual half hearted selection you find elsewhere. Both the starter (baked potato risotto) and main (gnocchi) were delicious. This is just a great independent hotel and restaurant.

Location good. Limited parking through very narrow entrance with not much space to manoeuvre the car. Hotel not good for any with mobility issues. Steep stairs and no lift. Bedroom very clean but on the front so noisy. Breakfast not so good, limited continental and poor cooked breakfast especially the bacon which was really overcooked , not just once but twice. Staff could do with a customer awareness course ! Slightly disappointed 😞

Wonderful hospitality from friendly staff in this historic and characterful building. The food was absolutely delicious and highly recommended. Well located to explore the beautiful and welcoming town of Shrewsbury!

We stayed at the Lion and Pheasant with friends over a weekend. The hotel is in a central location, close to shops and restaurants/bars. We had dinner in the restaurant. The food and service were excellent. We had a room that overlooked a road and so it was quite noisy with traffic and people until quite late. The room was clean and had what we needed. There were blackout blinds but unfortunately, they didn't fit well, and the curtains were extremely thin and unlined so there was quite a bit of light coming in. Breakfast was mixed. The cold selection was basic, sparse and low quality. Cheap sliced bread, white or wholemeal etc. This could be improved substantially. The hot food menu was very good and the food was excellent. Unfortunately the service was poor and we had to wait a long time and it was pretty clear our order had been forgotten. We eventually got our food, following us prompting the staff, about 50 minutes after we ordered.

We stayed in the Loft Suite, which was fabulous. The food, also fabulous. As were the staff. Why it's only a 4* - and tbh would have been a 3* if not for the empathy of the receptionist on leaving - was the price and the VERY loud noises at night, a combination of them clearing up (endlessly dragging tables, banging etc until after 1am) and a massive air con/heating unit which is directly outside the room. Barely slept a wink and notice others have mentioned this. Put a dampener on what was otherwise a lovely night away. For the price (over £400 for 2 x food and one drink, a small cooked breakfast and this suite, I would have expected more).

Lovely old building with loads of character. Room was smallish, but it’s an extremely old building so we expected this and narrow stairs and landings. All adds to the charm. Evening meal was exceptional and good value. Staff are very attentive and helpful. Car park is a bit tricky to get into down a narrow passage so we opted to park in the NCP directly opposite the hotel. Only minor issue was extremely slow service at breakfast. A room at the rear is advisable as the front is directly onto quite a busy street. Room 11 is ideal.

Noisy and light We booked the loft suite which was fine but be prepared for noisy night and bear in mind the skylights let in light from 4am

Visited for a birthday meal on a Sunday evening. Friendly welcome and lovely setting. Many options for drinks and some lovely wines available. The food was really lovely, it’s hard to describe a really nice roast but these chefs know what they are doing. And the folks looking after us were just awesome, what a lovely attentive but chilled vibe! Not easily done. Would very much recommend.
