Environment: Taxi drivers can't drive to the hotel entrance, or walk more than 100 meters. On rainy days, dragging a suitcase on the cobblestone road is not very friendly.
Hygiene: There is no bottled water in the hotel room, and there are many ditches for boiling water. I originally planned to make do with it; I looked at the mugs provided by the hotel. There was a chocolate powder on it (this is quite generous) and a spoon inserted. Oh my god, there are still traces of someone drinking on the spoon. The sticky things have not been washed off. I dare not look at it for fear of disgusting myself. I was thirsty that night, and I was too lazy to go downstairs to ask, and there was no bottled water for sale. The town is basically closed at 4:30.
Facilities: The floor of the whole building creaks when walking, it's too broken. In late February, the heating is cold. The bed seems to be simple, like an old-fashioned spring bed, and you can feel it when you lie on it. There is no quilt, just a blanket. Just sleep well, anyway, it's just one night.
Breakfast was free and generous, but there wasn't much. There was some bread and some green bananas. I took one and tried to eat it, but I couldn't even peel it off. It was too raw.
I will never stay at this hotel again. I'm sorry to say that.

We booked for the Shrewsbury School speech day and leavers ball so the whole town was fully booked. Thankfully there was a suite available at my favourite local hotel. We needed a room for 3 and the hotel staff were super helpful in accommodating our needs. It’s family owned and the culture of care is pervasive. It’s a hotel where the staff like to say yes. Not to mention the character of the hotel itself. It’s a mixture of 12th, 15th and 17th century architecture forming an elaborate maze of rooms covering the block. The Matthews family have truly created a 5 star hotel experience. I was even offered a glass of sherry by the night watchman when I checked in on once at 1am. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.
