Amazing
GGuest UserI had an excellent experience at Amagawaso. When I arrived, I was greeted with sencha, warm steamed buns, and the sign-up sheet for the private onsen. Staying at Amagawaso felt cozy and familiar, like visiting family. The inn has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Even had some sakura right outside my bedroom window. The owners are so warm and kind. They made me feel right at home. Amagawaso is just a short walk from the public baths throughout Shibu Onsen and the local bus stops which take you up to Snow Monkey Park. I would certainly stay here again.
GGuest UserIt satisfied all my fantasies about Japanese hot spring hotels.
Facilities: We booked an ordinary Japanese-style room with a bathroom, but there was actually a window, but the view was different. The room was considered large in Japan, but the door was a bit small, so there was no place to spread out the suitcase.
Environment: When I went there, the male and female hot spring baths had been changed, so I only experienced one. There was a large bath, a small bath, and an open-air bath, but the most comfortable one was the indoor bath, with the most suitable water temperature. There is no private bath that can be reserved, but it is better to go later. If you are lucky, you can get a private bath experience.
Service: Very good. The hotel has a car to connect Yudanaka Station to the hotel, but it will be after 2 pm. There is also a route to the Snow Monkey Park, but there is no route back from the park. The hotel is very good. When we just arrived at the hotel, we found that our bag was left at the station. The staff pulled me back to the station to get the bag. I was the only one in the car, and it was a complete chartered car experience.
Breakfast and dinner were very rich, and it can be seen that they were made with care, but I don’t like to eat raw food, so I just experienced it and didn’t taste anything different. There was also beef on the day I ate there, and there were many dishes, so it doesn't matter if you don't eat any of them. If you have enough budget, I still recommend trying it! ! ! You can feel the traditional Japanese dining
BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there.
The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance.
- The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit.
- The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning.
- After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics.
- Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30.
- The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want.
- The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this.
- Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern).
We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.
GGrigoryWe were there in February, it was minus outside, but the room had a heater and air conditioning. Not frozen. The hotels have three onsens, one shared for men, one for women and one private. They also give you the key to 9 public onsens in the village. The hostess can pick you up or take you to the nearest station, she also took us to dinner and to Monkey Park. Breakfast is traditional. And in general, the hotel is traditional Japanese, I advise anyone who is interested in staying in a traditional hotel. But keep in mind that you need to sleep on the tatama and wear slippers, they are not allowed in the shower, and you also need to wash in the onsen.
AAnonymous UserIt's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up.
The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range.
We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect.
We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night.
There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there.
WWuyayizhiThe hotel's pick-up service at Yudanaka Station gave a very good first impression. Although the facilities are a bit old, the service is very warm, the room is very large, and there is a private hot spring. Every morning, the hotel also picks up guests to the Snow Monkey Park for free. However, there is a small flaw in the service I personally encountered. When I checked in, the hotel informed me that the return time from the Snow Monkey Park was 12 noon, just in time for the 12:30 bus back to Nagano, but in fact it became 12:30 the next day. I had to take the next bus back to Nagano. Because there were fewer buses, it was about an hour and a half late.
HHenry 7hangOur family made a special trip from Tokyo to Nagano, and besides exploring the surrounding attractions, watching the snow monkeys soaking in the hot springs of Nozawa, and visiting the Togakushi Shrine, the highlight of this trip was staying at Issa no Komichi Biyu no Yado.
Initially, we had modest expectations, thinking of it as just another experience. However, upon arriving in the snowy Yudanaka Shibu Onsen, we were immediately impressed by the warm and professional hospitality. From the thoughtful reception to the exquisite dinner and the unique public onsen, every aspect exceeded our expectations and left us pleasantly surprised. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japanese onsen culture.
If you’re planning a trip to Nagano, this is definitely a place worth visiting to experience the perfect blend of hot springs and nature!
AAnonymous UserI feel like I need to write a short essay to match the evaluation of the hotel's service, beautiful scenery, and food. First of all, the service is very enthusiastic, and the first impression is a plus. It was almost 6 o'clock in the evening when we came to Yudanaka Station from Nagano, and we couldn't get a taxi. Because we didn't make an appointment for the hotel to pick us up, we called the hotel with the idea of trying it and asked if we could pick it up. The hotel immediately agreed to pick us up. The staff at the front desk of the hotel were very good and gave us a detailed introduction to the facilities and services of the hotel and the room. When we met the staff on the road, we would also greet them politely and enthusiastically. The uncle in the restaurant always had a smile and served very thoughtfully, and he knew some Chinese. Secondly, the hotel's food and beautiful scenery, the set meal is exquisite, delicious and filling, and taking pictures is even more suitable for Chinese people who want to make films in their lifetime. Soaking in the hot springs and watching the snowflakes flying all over the sky, the fatigue brought by a day's special forces trip was cured. More feelings need to be experienced by yourself in the hotel. In short, I recommend this hotel very much. I will come again during the cherry blossom season. In addition, the hotel is very close to the Mara bath and walks a few dozen meters.
GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!
PPangI am from Hong Kong, but I did not stay in this hotel. Originally I booked Villa Ichinose, but 3 days before departure I received an email from Villa Ichinose saying that due to a problem with the room's machinery, they would arrange to move me to another hotel called Mount Shiga. I stayed in a tatami room in that hotel and there were no chairs. After skiing all day, I had to sit on a mattress on the ground to rest. I need an extra pillow to make my lower back more comfortable. When I opened the door where the pillows and quilts were placed and took out a pillow, I was stunned. The pillow was dirty, full of saliva stains, yellow and moldy. I believe it hadn't been cleaned for at least a month to be so dirty and noticeable. Such sanitary conditions make me very uneasy. I took pictures of the pillow and room key to prove it. My main point is that the person in charge of Villa Ichinose should not have transferred me to a very old and unhygienic hotel. I can't comment on other aspects because I didn't stay there. But the location is very good, right next to the Ichinose bus stop, and the hotel environment is nice (because I was going to this hotel to pick up my snowboard bag, so I went in to take a look).
