Stopped at campsite behind. Called in for food 1st night. Mrs had a lovely pint of Hawkstones lager . Decided have a starter , I had soup of day , Mrs had brie brushetta. Both were very nice but were a little bit cooler than we like. We both decided have steak and Stilton pie with chips and veg . Omg this was amazing, lovely and hot , big pieces of steak , and as soon as you cut into pie you could smell the Stilton. Perfect main course. Of course if there's a good choice of desserts it'd be rude not to have 1 lol. I had bakewell tart with custard, wife had mars bar cheesecake. Both were amazing desserts . We were really well looked after , 3 course meals each 2 pints lime soda and pint lager £71. Really good experience. Would definitely go back

I’m not sure if I’d recommend here. The room was nice but I couldn’t open the window as the extractor fan was pointed at the rooms and quite quickly the room stunk of deep fat frying. The shower head hasn’t been cleaned in a while. The flow of the water is obstructed from build up and visible dirt. The bathroom is at the top of the building so the roof is sloped. Watch your head if you’re over 6 foot. I had dinner there which was lovely, but the ribs had very little meat on them. I told the staff member but nothing was done. At breakfast I asked could I sit in the window. Travelling on my own, with nobody to talk to, I didn’t want to be sat in the middle of the restaurant. I wanted to look out of the window. There was only two other people in there with me. You’d have thought I’d have asked for him to move a table outside. I was told no for the first table as the middle one was already set up. I asked could I move to a similar sized table in the other window. The man was clearly irritated and grabbed at the cutlery and literally flung it down on the table. The breakfast was lovely. High quality ingredients just not enough. One piece of bacon and one sausage. I would have like more and would have been happy to pay a bit more. I didn’t want to ask after the reaction to moving table. All in all I’d sooner stay at a chain hotel next time.

This is a consistently superb pub with lovely staff who are so friendly and we always enjoy our trips here. This occasion was just the same, a cosy spacious room, excellent food in the bar and a lovely beer garden for the sun sets so the perfect place.

Bathroom is in the flaming loft, up narrow stairs, as a single person who is nearly 60 with bad knees this is NOT okay. If I fell in the night coming down no one would know, had to ensure I had NO fluids after 8pm to reduce the need to pee in the night, so couldn’t have a drink in the pub. Otherwise room is nice, Inn is in beautiful surroundings.

Due to difficulties at my booked hotel, this was a last-minute replacement. What a delight. It is clearly loved by locals and visitors alike. The rooms are good, and the food, although the menu is small, was well-prepared and always served hot. When I passed the kitchen, it was spotless. The staff seem long-term, friendly and professional. Had three great evenings, chatting in the bar area and outside. Would highly recommend for a stopover. Always ring direct for the best price.

You don’t often see Calves liver.. on a pub menu these days so after checking that it was served pink (it was) I ordered it and it was absolutely delicious. Great range of beers and really friendly service too… Note that last orders for food ate 7:30 pm…

What a fantastic little place this is rooms are spacious and comfortable bed is comfortable too. The staff are approachable, polite and attentive. We stayed for 4 nights and we ate breakfast and evening dinner every day apart from 1. First impressions matter to me and I was impressed by the first meal I ate and every meal after until we had to leave for home. It's out in the middle of the countryside 2 miles from the nearest village but that to me just adds to it's charm, there are plenty of walks nearby too. Will certainly be returning sometime soon.

this is a lovely old pub/hotel deep in the Derbyshire hills, really convenient for Bakewell/Castleton & Buxton touring. Lovely people, could not be more accommodating
