Grand House Shaoxing

I've been longing to stay at Shaoxing Dayu Kaiyuan Guantang, especially on a rainy day. Finally, from May 26-28, it rained, and I got my wish to visit Dayu Kaiyuan. That afternoon, the front desk attendant kindly upgraded us from a garden-view villa in phase one to a courtyard villa in phase two. She also thoroughly explained the hotel's facilities and suggested sightseeing routes. There was even a shuttle to take us to our room. The hotel was formerly the ancient village of Yuzhou, a classic Jiangnan waterside town with a river running through it, white walls and black tiles, ancient Ming and Qing dynasty mansions, cobblestone alleys, and an old opera stage. The rainy old village perfectly embodied the misty charm of Jiangnan. The food at Yujia Courtyard was delicious, and I definitely want to come back and stay for a few more days.

This time, I brought my parents to experience the stay. I booked a villa suite for them and a standard room for myself. The two room types have very different styles, but I liked both of them. The hotel itself is a scenic spot; you could say that even if you don't leave the hotel, you can take some great photos. Wandering around the hotel can easily take up a good amount of time. This is especially nice for older parents who don't want to rush from place to place or sightsee; just strolling around the hotel at a leisurely pace is very comfortable. I suggest the hotel could improve its breakfast. Also, the quality of the bedding and linens could be upgraded. As for the service, it was truly impeccable. Satisfied! 👍

On the first day, after checking in, we left our luggage at the lobby and went for lunch. We only got our room number after lunch… Our group waited patiently outside, getting bitten by mosquitoes… Little did we know, the cleaning lady was sitting by the road scrolling on her phone, instead of diligently cleaning the rooms as the front desk claimed? When we went to ask when our room would be ready, the cleaning lady repeatedly asked, “Who told you to ask? Was it the front desk?” Finally, she just said, “Fine, I’ll clean yours first…” ??? The overall hotel environment is nice, and the room didn't smell musty, but the details… for example, the decorative paintings and the vanity light were really dusty. During our 4-day stay, let's not even talk about whether the breakfast was good or not (it was on par with a budget hotel)… but it was the first time I've encountered it being exactly the same every single day?! The front desk staff's service was surprisingly bad too… When we politely asked if there was a local market nearby where we could buy some souvenirs, the front desk just glanced at us and dismissed us with, “They're not locals, they wouldn't know!” This level of service was really baffling. Finally, I still want to thank the electric cart team for their shuttle service. Although their response time was quite long a few times, their attitude was great, and they always greeted us with a smile!

The hotel's facilities are great. It's very comfortable to just wander around and take photos, really setting a relaxed, 'slow living' vibe. The rooms are also well-maintained, especially considering the hotel is over a decade old. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

This hotel, nestled near Dayu's Mausoleum, is a converted ancient village, offering a beautiful and tranquil environment. The standalone Jiangnan-style villas are quite charming. They provide a shuttle service that's on-call, and there's even a private entrance leading directly from the hotel to the core scenic area of Dayu's Mausoleum. After checking out, the hotel thoughtfully provided a souvenir, which was a very warm touch.

The environment is great and the breakfast is rich. It's a pity that the room isn't very well-ventilated, but it's still a good choice for a relaxing vacation.

This hotel is a destination in itself, especially beautiful at night when all the lights are on. I booked a garden view villa but was lucky enough to get upgraded to a river view villa. The room was spotless and even smelled lovely when I first walked in. The back door opened right onto the river, making it super easy to snap some amazing photos. Our butler, Pinxi, provided incredibly attentive service, whether it was refilling amenities or offering local tips, she was always prompt. We also happened to be there during their Children's Day activities, which added to the fun and excitement.

Our stay was absolutely perfect! Every corner of the hotel is picturesque, offering beautiful photo opportunities that easily rival popular scenic spots, but with a unique江南 (Jiangnan) style. A special shout-out to Mr. Chen Fu, our shuttle driver. We arrived quite late, around 10 PM, amidst a heavy downpour, and the shuttle service was almost ending. He thoughtfully covered our sleeping child with a towel to prevent them from getting wet. After dropping us off, he walked us to our room, holding an umbrella and even helped with our luggage. Such a small act of kindness truly warmed our hearts. Thumbs up to him! At checkout, Ms. Xiao Xie from the concierge was incredibly attentive, helping us with our luggage to the car and proactively assisting with the checkout process. Big praises for her! Assistant Lobby Manager Mr. Xiao Lü also had a wonderful attitude. We're definitely looking forward to coming back and trying out different room types! Shaoxing is truly beautiful!

Our room on the second floor had great ventilation and natural light, was very spacious, and felt quite clean. The bathroom didn't have a door, just a curtain. We stayed in the building with the Phase II lobby. While exploring the hotel, we discovered that the Phase II villas and the Phase I ancient buildings were really beautiful, all situated by the lake with fantastic views. The hotel's interior has an antique charm, featuring small exhibition halls dedicated to Da Yu culture. There were also hands-on activities available like tie-dyeing, pottery, and rubbings. Plus, there's a convenient side gate that leads directly to the Da Yu Mausoleum. Overall, it was a great experience.
