Beautiful spot in the jungle. Really peaceful nights sleep with the sounds of the rainforest to help you drift off. So we'll placed for the orangutan and sunbear sanctuary. And warning signs everywhere about not getting too close to the wild Orangutans which can come visit!!

Lodge was fine Stayed for two comfortable nights Food A la carte ,just enough , not much choice, beer said 14.50 in menu card but when at the time of departure went to pay started adding tax ,which was not in the chart. This was a strange experience only in that lodge but not In other three prime lodges in other birding areas in Borneo . Lodge stay comfortable, bed, hot water , all good, recommendable, Birding around the lodge ,hornbill, king fisher, also saw Orangutan in the bush near the lodge, Not far are Sunbear and Orangutan Centre ,

We stayed at the Sepilok Nature Lodge for 2 nights in October 2024. We arrived after almost 24 hours travelling and were greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner. The lodge is situated close to the orangutan and sun bear rehabilitation centres, only 2-3 minutes walk. The lodge is a series of chalets set around a central lake. The chalets are spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant serves a mixture of Malaysian and western food and was very reasonably priced. The highlight of our trip was being told by Rul that there were wild orangutans in the resort. He allowed us amazing access to a mother and her baby. Rul was so helpful and came to find us the following day to see more orangutans in the resort. We saw quite a lot of other wildlife, monkeys and snakes, in the resort and Rul was always available to answer our questions. We had an amazing stay and would highly recommend the Sepilok Nature Lodge as a great place to stay.

I think most guests (including us) use this to visit the sanctuary and as a jumping off for their next lodge. For one night this is fine. Not sure I would want to stay here for 4 nights. Breakfast was meh, view over pond and into forest was very nice. Dinner was ok, but had to pre-order, so we could have iit when we got back from night hike, but other dinner people were ordering their meals when we were back - so this takes away from your full normal dinner experience. Staff was fine. Room was real basic, but large. They had a sign about mice in the room, but they said they had none, but I still tried to block the gap under the door. Curtains not great at blocking out morning lite, but you usually up early to get on with your day. A few normal bugs in the room. Shower was dark but fine. Bed ok. Mini fridge was nice touch. Construction next door for us just an eye distraction. We didn't see any wildlife on hotel grounds, but we had short stay. I would say it is too far to walk to another restaurant and to the sanctuary (unless you energetic hiker). Orangutan sanctuary worth visit, sun bear was fair (they attached). Need to go to Orangutan sanctuary during feeding time. The nite hike they do nearby is worthwhile.

We arrived around 2.30 pm and spent a pleasant afternoon on loungers overlooking the lake. Our room was quite large, bed and pillows comfortable. You do need to take care on the wooden walkways because they are uneven in places & the odd tree root has grown through, but we’re mid-late 60’s with dodgy knees, and we never had a problem. Food was fine & there’s a small bar serving cocktails, beer etc. One thing we found odd was that they serve food from7-9pm, but both nights they wanted you to place last orders at 8.30. We were there at the start of the Malaysian bank holiday and there didn’t appear to be any management around - perhaps that was why! The resort is 5 minutes drive from Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, and the sun bear sanctuary which both are musts, plus close to the Proboscis monkey sanctuary, also a must. The highlight of our stay here, though, has to be spotting wild orangutans both evenings, around 5.45, on our way back to our chalet. A true privilege, especially as we didn’t see them on the next part of our trip down the Kinubitangan River.

What a lovely resort to start our adventure! We were lucky enough on an early morning stroll to watch a group of Orangutans getting out of their nests, our first wild Orangutan sighting of the trip so very special. The sound of Gibbons at sunrise was lovely and lots of birds and butterflies magical. The breakfast was delicious and efficient, friendly service. We opted for the evening fire fly mangrove boat trip organised by the resort. A very authentic visit to see a local village called crocodile village and interesting to see how locals live. We were given a yummy tea of locally baked cakes and then taken along the mangroves where we saw Proboscis monkeys during daylight and lots of fire flies along the river side at night. We stopped at a beach also to wait for sunset. The boats are quite rustic but all added to the experience. They then served us dinner which was plentiful and tasty. We only stayed one night but would have happily stayed longer.

The Sepilok Nature Lodge was the first of 3 lodges we stayed at as part of our tour through Borneo with Borneo Eco Tours. We stayed here for one night, as it served as the jumping off point for our tour deeper into the Borneo Jungle, and it is very conveniently located near the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Out Chalet was perfect and the food served for both dinner and breakfast was very good. The only con I have is that they are currently constructing a new "modern' facility across from the main lobby and pond, and have completely deforested that area and the building being constructed is not in line with the overall "lodge" aesthetic, and the construction noise at breakfast is a turn off. However, since we were only staying the one night, we could overlook this. I would however not stay longer.
